Protect Birth Control: No to President Bush's Latest Proposal

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: Care2
The Bush administration is proposing a new regulation that would discourage doctors and health-care clinics from providing birth control to women who need it. This regulation would require federal health programs to certify that they will hire nurses and other providers who openly object to abortion or contraception in order to receive federal aid to run their programs.

The regulation could seriously jeopardize state laws and policies that protect women's access to birth control. For example, state laws that require hospitals to provide sexual-assault victims with access to emergency contraception could be jeopardized!

Members of Congress are calling on the Bush administration to change course. Please let your members of Congress know that you strongly oppose this attack on women's health and individual rights.

For more information on the proposal, see http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/15/washington/15rule.html?_r=1&sq=birth

Dear [Congressperson]:

I'm writing to express my opposition to proposed new rules that would discourage doctors and health-care clinics from providing contraception to women who need it.

Current federal law already allows doctors and even health-care corporations (hospitals, HMOs, and health plans) to refuse to provide services or make referrals for abortion. The new rule, which deliberately confuses the definitions of contraception and abortion, would cause disarray in law, regulations and policy and make it more difficult for women to obtain birth control.

I know it's an uphill battle, but I support any efforts to try to convince the Bush administration to change course on the regulation.

I am increasingly saddened by the loss of our rights as American citizens. "No president has ever had a higher disapproval rating in any CNN or Gallup Poll; in fact, this is the first time that any president's disapproval rating has cracked the 70 percent mark," said Keating Holland, CNN's polling director.

Bush is a pathetic, ignorant retard and his government is just as bad as he is. What is this, the 19th century? I thought women were progressing, instead this is shoving us backwards again. I have some comfort in knowing that God will not shine upon this monkey and his minions, he will rot in Hell with the rest of the evil people that have come before him. Heaven forbid something should happen to a family member, what then you pathetic excuse of a subhuman? You are like a disease, spreading your filth over the citizens of America.

I feel like we are back in time... It is imperative that all women have all of the available information and services regarding taking control of her health and wellbeing. The health insurance companies that cover women should pay for services that women want and need. She is the customer...and her needs must be met.

Bush and his administration need to keep their religious opinions to themselves and allow women the right to access medical care as they need it.
