Several U.S. Senators, led by Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK), are trying to block plans for "Cape Wind," the nation's first offshore wind farm in Cape Cod, MA. The wind farm would create jobs and meet 75% of the electricity needs of Cape Cod and surrounding islands, helping to reduce fossil fuel consumption and cut global warming pollution from power plants.
But despite the huge potential benefits, Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) backs a bill that would effectively halt the proposed construction. The 130-turbine, 24-square-mile cluster of windmills would be about 8 miles from Kennedy's home in Hyannis Port.
Ted Kennedy and other rich homeowners just don't want their view spoiled.
The Cape Wind project has been undergoing stringent environmental reviews for five years now; experts estimate there would be very little if any negative impact under water for marine life.
As record oil prices turn attention to the need for renewable fuels, momentum is building in Congress to buck Senator Edward M. Kennedy's bid to block the proposed Cape Cod wind energy project. Speak up! Sign this petition and let your representatives know that you want renewable energy!
We signed the “Support America's first offshore wind farm” petition!

I'm not a scientist, and not even a smart guy, but even I understand that generation of electricity from wind which turns the propeller which turns the turbine will have MUCH LESS impact on environment than from burning fosile fuels, if any. To vote against this project can only martians who have recently visited us and don't know (yet) the bullshit that goes around our world, or selfish, corrupt politicians.

I'd rather like to view a farm of beautiful wind turbines than an oil refinery. Besides, considering the benefits of a renewable source of energy plus the fact it wouldn't cause many if any problems for the sea life, one would think that a practical person would want this (rich or not). Please support the wind farm!

This is disturbing, especially with the state of energy today. It is sad that in the interest of the rich and well off the rest of the world must suffer. How about being practical? Or are these opposed politicians being influenced by present energy companies with funding resulting in a conflict of interest? Wouldn't surprise me!

At a time when everyone, maybe even President Bush, understands the need for non-fossil fuel based energy, the development of energy sources such as wind MUST be supported. Those with money don't need to worry about the high cost of gas and oil... but the rest of us do. If Congress is willing to destroy the last of the great American wilderness for a few barrels of oil, they should also be willing to give up a little ocean space that might block the view of the well-to-do. Please support this step toward freedom from fossil fuel dependence in our country.

Renewables are not an alternative - they are a necessity. The question is obvious - what's better for us as inhabitants of the earth: a few blinking lights on the horizon as a trade-off for clean, pollution free energy or having our houses coated with coal power plant pollution and being dependent on other countries for our power supply (countries who are not the friendliest towards us).

When will you represent the people and not the corporations. This needs to be in affect now for the present and not for the future, because the future won't be here.

Here in Scotland we have a similar problem with pylons who would indeed spoil the more than beautiful landscape. But on the long run, so I think, this will be better than the alternative of further exploiting the last resources of our planet.

Here is a case of millionaire Democrat Senator Edward (Ted) Kennedy fighting a truly worthy source of alternative energy, because it might detract from the view from his mansion. He has joined in this fight along with Republican Senator Ted Stevens.
It seems that selfishness knows no political party. Please, Senators, I hope the rest of you will support this offshore wind farm.

"For I was hungry and you gave me no food; I was thirsty and you gave me no drink; I was a stranger, and you did not take me in, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me. Then they also will answer him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?' Then will he answer them, saying, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me." (Matthew 25:42-45)

It's about time someone in Congress comes up with a great idea. To bad that the traitor Kennedy isn't on board.
