Several U.S. Senators, led by Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK), are trying to block plans for "Cape Wind," the nation's first offshore wind farm in Cape Cod, MA. The wind farm would create jobs and meet 75% of the electricity needs of Cape Cod and surrounding islands, helping to reduce fossil fuel consumption and cut global warming pollution from power plants.
But despite the huge potential benefits, Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) backs a bill that would effectively halt the proposed construction. The 130-turbine, 24-square-mile cluster of windmills would be about 8 miles from Kennedy's home in Hyannis Port.
Ted Kennedy and other rich homeowners just don't want their view spoiled.
The Cape Wind project has been undergoing stringent environmental reviews for five years now; experts estimate there would be very little if any negative impact under water for marine life.
As record oil prices turn attention to the need for renewable fuels, momentum is building in Congress to buck Senator Edward M. Kennedy's bid to block the proposed Cape Cod wind energy project. Speak up! Sign this petition and let your representatives know that you want renewable energy!
We signed the “Support America's first offshore wind farm” petition!

Come on....please; for the sake of humanity~do not forsake our own resources/alternatives, to retain your "room with a View." Be sensible, act according to Ethics; and let America utilize the offshore wind farm.

You say we need to rid ourselves of dependency on foreign oil or oil period and find new alternatives. I think it has something to do with your constituents and re-election. At least find some common ground to do both!

If we do not remove ourselves from the grip of the oil mogels we will remain "slaves" to their every whim.

Wind powered farms is a forward approach in decreasing the amount of fossil fuel consumption. Unhealthy pollution produced from power plants consistently feeds global warming. The Cape Wind project would create employment opportunities for local citizens. It would provide 75% of the electical needs for Cape Cod and it's surrounding islands. And it is an environmentally friendly approach for a clean and postive change. I believe it is due time for forward action to take place.

This is so much better for Mother Nature than the worry of oil spills!! Much cleaner, healthier way to go.

It is just smart to try to find other ways to get energy and this is clean and healthy.

We will end up either sacrificing some of our precious views to oil rigs or wind farms. We need to go with the answer that will help the most while causing the least amount of ecological damage. Windmills kill birds in the air and oil spills, well, we know what they do. But in any case, the view is the last consideration when the issue is survival.

It confounds me why anyone would want to halt any energy enhancement such as this. We are all aware that our present course of energy abuse will lead to repercussions in the future. Why not take the necessary procedures now?

We need more "good" ideas like this, not just hot air from some overblown, self serving Senator.

If there is a problem with the amount of "windmills", why not suggest a lesser amount than to just blow off the whole idea just because it would ruin "rich" peoples view of the ocean. When I look at the picture displayed with this petition I see clear skies (not low hanging smog), I see a sample of a more efficient and cleaner way to produce power. Think of the savings, especially for us hard working, and struggling consumers!
When you have Happy conservative and earth respecting consumers, You have more future votes and respect in order to continue to govern and protect "The People", and our "Enviornment and Wildlife"...
Money and power may talk, but let it talk for the benefit of all and not for the few.... Please, consider this project. If not, then seek other "earth" friendly projects to help wean America's dependency on oil. They're out there. Thank you..

Wind Farms should be cropping up all over, not just on the east coast!!
