Support America's first offshore wind farm

Target: U.S. Senate
Sponsored by: Care2
Several U.S. Senators, led by Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK), are trying to block plans for "Cape Wind," the nation's first offshore wind farm in Cape Cod, MA. The wind farm would create jobs and meet 75% of the electricity needs of Cape Cod and surrounding islands, helping to reduce fossil fuel consumption and cut global warming pollution from power plants.

But despite the huge potential benefits, Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) backs a bill that would effectively halt the proposed construction. The 130-turbine, 24-square-mile cluster of windmills would be about 8 miles from Kennedy's home in Hyannis Port.

Ted Kennedy and other rich homeowners just don't want their view spoiled.

The Cape Wind project has been undergoing stringent environmental reviews for five years now; experts estimate there would be very little if any negative impact under water for marine life.

As record oil prices turn attention to the need for renewable fuels, momentum is building in Congress to buck Senator Edward M. Kennedy's bid to block the proposed Cape Cod wind energy project. Speak up! Sign this petition and let your representatives know that you want renewable energy!

Dear Senator,

I strongly urge you to vote to remove Sen. Stevens' offshore wind farm amendment from the Coast Guard Authorization Act (H.R. 889).

[your comment here]

The wind farm would save millions of dollars in energy costs and help the United States wean itself off foreign oil at a time of record-high prices, in a region where fuel bills have doubled in 5 years.

During its construction and operation, Cape Wind would create jobs and increase tax revenues in the region. And once operational, it would be able to meet about 75 percent of the electricity needs of Cape Cod and surrounding islands, helping to reduce fossil fuel consumption and cut global warming pollution from power plants.

For the past five years, Cape Wind has been subject to an ongoing rigorous environmental review process that is examining all aspects of the project, including wildlife and navigational issues, to ensure that any appropriate protective measures are adopted.

Experts estimate there would be very little if any negative impact on marine life.

Development of America’s offshore wind industry would benefit both our environment and our economy. Please protect Cape Wind and remove Sen. Stevens' amendment before passing the Coast Guard Reauthorization Act.

Sincerely,

since you have more than enough money, MOVE. Let people have the benefits of wonderful new jobs and reduced electrical costs and environmental damage.

When the hell are the "rich' and what THEY want going to told they are no more important than the rest of us?! We all are going to need more energy in the decades ahead; this is ridiculous that these pEOple would block this great idea for energy for the people of MA!!!

Wind power is one important part of our nation's energy future. Many experts have stated this again and again. For the future of the population it is necessary for America to step forward and pursue a diversified energy portfolio - pursuing off-shore wind farms is a step in the right direction.

Finally a clean answer to some of our energy needs. Plenty of people live have undesireable neighbors, landfills, filthy industies, prisons etc. If wealthy land owners object they have the resources to buy elsewhere and should consider the needs of others besides themselves. This would benefit so many and negatively impact such a relative few, it would be a shame if shelfishness prohibited a really positive step in providing clean energy to the United States.

I think this is an excellent idea to have wind farms off shore. Please make this the next big step in energy saving tactics. It's very much needed. Do something RIGHT for a change. Please!

Please support America's first offshore wind farm! The wind farm has lots of pro's: more jobs, less pollution, and it will be able to generate 75% of the electricity needed in Cape Cod. The cons? The rich landowners will see tiny little sticks, microscopic almost, on the horizon. On the Cape Wind project website, they have a picture of what the wind turbines will look like from the shore. Microscopic sticks: that's what they'll see on a clear day. Barely there. The "damage" to the property value is little. Please vote in favor of the wind farm, the pro's clearly outweigh the cons. Tiny sticks on the horizon sure beat another polluting nuclear power plant.

Our country's reliance on non-renewable resources is an embarrassment and detrimental to the welfare of the entire ecosystem which we call earth. When will we learn! Global warming is no longer disputed; it is a fact! What is disputed is how long it will take mankind to make this planet uninhabitable. Using wind makes sense to those who have sense. Please support America's first offshore wind farm! Earth's future depends on it!!

We need the wind farm. When are we going to realize that global warming is on a nonstop course. We have to do whatever it takes to stop it.

I am a big believer in wind energy. I think that an offshore wind farm is a step in the right direction for our nation. If the only reason for the wind farm not to be built is that it would disrupt a couple views. I say along with almost everyone else signing this petition let it be built.
