Say NO to mass dog slaughter in China

Officials in a southwestern Chinese county brutally slaughtered 50,000 dogs in a government-ordered crackdown after three people died of rabies.
Dogs being walked were seized from their owners and beaten to death on the spot. Killing teams also entered villages at night creating noise to get dogs barking, and then beat the animals to death.
Had the government been more attentive and proactive about rabies vaccination, the killings wouldnÂ’t have been necessary. Only 3 percent of dogs are vaccinated against rabies and more than 2,000 people die of the disease each year.
Regardless of culture, the brutal killing of innocent life, human or not, is unacceptable. This must not happen again in the future! It is essential that the Chinese government place an emphasis on widespread rabies vaccination to ensure human health and prevent the unnecessary loss of animal life.

If China is to be considered a "first world" nation, proper care for both people and animals is required. A simple immunization program for rabies is all that is necessary, not wanton and cruel slaughter of animals that were probably all innocent.

This is completely and utterly INSANE! We do have a rabies vaccination and obviously it was invented for a purpose! I find it hard to believe China does NOT know about this vaccination???? They know everything else! You have got to stop this cruelty! Its just as bad as the seal hunt in Canada. Im sure there are plenty of organizations that are willing to help educate and provide the vacinnation.

Rabies prevention should be mandatory in all cultures it should be law that unless an animal is vacinated for rabies, one cannot own an animal. The slaughtering of innocent dogs is repugnant because of an irresposible government and its laws.

A country that prepares itself for the worst, is a country that has it's own people in it's best interest. Please don't continue to punish the innocent animals for the negligence of humans. The animals cannot themselves administer their own rabies shots, so it is up to the owners & government to be the most responsible. Please think of not only your animals but the innocent people as well who could have been saved in the first place had the proper vaccinations been administered. ~Thank You Sue Anne

Why is it that the United States is the only country that actually values the life of an animal, and not treat them as garbage that can be easily discarded no matter how cruel it is. I guess since they still discard innocent children, mainly little baby girls also, since they are not important when they are born in their eyes due to not being able to support there families when they are older, why should we expect anything less from them when it comes to animals. In their eyes they are just another form of live stock. Maybe when they start to cherish every life regardless of gender then they might see how cherished animals should also be.
