Target:Clark T. Randt, U.S. Ambassador to China Sponsored by:Care2
Officials in a southwestern Chinese county brutally slaughtered 50,000 dogs in a government-ordered crackdown after three people died of rabies.
Dogs being walked were seized from their owners and beaten to death on the spot. Killing teams also entered villages at night creating noise to get dogs barking, and then beat the animals to death.
Had the government been more attentive and proactive about rabies vaccination, the killings wouldnÂ’t have been necessary. Only 3 percent of dogs are vaccinated against rabies and more than 2,000 people die of the disease each year.
Regardless of culture, the brutal killing of innocent life, human or not, is unacceptable. This must not happen again in the future! It is essential that the Chinese government place an emphasis on widespread rabies vaccination to ensure human health and prevent the unnecessary loss of animal life.
Sign this petition to call on the US Ambassador to China, Clark T. Randt, to urge the Chinese government to adopt rabies prevention as a rule.
We signed the “Say NO to mass dog slaughter in China” petition!

What a sad, horrible waste of life. And, even sadder, rabies can so easily be prevented.

All life has value. Animals deserve dignity. As humans we should be the most evolved in our treatment of other species. Please respect the lives of all creatures on this planet

It is inhumane to grab innocent /healthy dogs from their owners and slaughter them on the spot.
We trade with China & this behavior confirms their insanity. It is the 21st Century.. there are vaccines that prevent disease... why are they not implimenting this medical practice.
I don't want to hear about any more inhumane behaviors in this day & age....

When I first heard of this cruel and barbaric murder of dogs, I felt physically ill. It was totally unnecessary when rabies vaccine has been proven to be a very effective prevention of the disease. The Chinese government needs to put a required vaccination program in place.

I urge you to please adopt a rabies prevention program in China...please stop the mass killing of dogs in China...your actions only enforces the despicable and shameful reputation China aleady has in the treatment of all animals!!!! Should China suffer some natural catastrophe on the scale of the recent tsunami, I would not send one cent to aid China b/c of your horrible treatment of animals!!!!

I first learned of this yesterday on CNN. In bringing itself into the 21st century, China should prove to the world that it can improve its animal rights/treatment record, just as it is with its human rights record. Immunization!

I was sick to my stomach when I read about this in the newspaper. How barbaric and backward can a country be? Why didn't they just put down the dogs that had the rabies? Have they never heard of vaccines? I feel so bad for the people whose innocent pet family members were bludgeoned to death, perhaps even in front of their eyes. Please communicate with the Chinese government about the success of rabies prevention programs and how much better a solution that is than the slaughter of innocent, rabies-free animals. Perhaps they condoned this slaughter as an excuse to use the fur for the many products they export...

Absolutley in sane. This is cruelty to animals and it needs to be stopped at once.
I sure feel for the owners loosing their companion in this way.

This makes my stomach turn. jThis is insane and devoid of any compassion. Education, not the killing of innocent dogs, is the only thing that will control rabies. The greatness of a nation and its moral progess can be judged by the way its animals are treated. China is indeed not moral and great if this practice continues.

Mr. Randt, I implore you to urge the Chinese government to immediately cease this practice of slaughtering dogs, and to take the more humane approach of rabies vaccination. Can you imagine standing on a sidewalk watching as someone did this to your OWN dog??? Please..... make them stop!

No one would even *think* of viciously bludgeoning and electrocuting more than fifty thousand *humans* as a proper way
of stopping a deadly infectious disease. How DARE *anyone* be allowed to inflict such atrocity upon innocent, loving dogs!
Quarantine and vaccination programs are the answer, for the health and safety of both man and canine.

Dear Ambassador:
please explain to the fossil like leaders of China that they are pathetic failures...they need to put the oppium pipes down and get with the year 2006. I know they don't care about anybody or anything but themselves which is obvious by their dragging people out and shooting them in the head in the streets for having different oppinions then them....you know what...screw China...the most over populated, polluted, cruel, F'd up country...just keep producing the crappy knock offs and ripping people off...trust me I will go out of my way to never purchase another piece of garbage made in that hell hole country.

First I was appaled, then I was sickened, then I cried. What an awful death for those dogs. And their owners and children had to watch! Please consider spay/ neuter/ vaccinate as not only an option but as a solution.
