Tell Congress to Resist Calls for Drilling

Sponsored by: Save Our Environment
Anti-environmentalists in Congress are adding amendments to every bill they can get their hands on, calling for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, many offshore areas and other sensitive regions - even to bills that aren't remotely related to energy!

Drilling is NOT the answer to our energy crisis. Drilling in the Arctic and off our beaches will only perpetuate our dependence on dirty fossil fuels and slow progress toward a clean energy future.

Tell your members of Congress that we must pursue clean, renewable energy alternatives.

Dear [Decision maker],

Recently there has been an increase in the number of drilling amendments added to bills in an attempt to solve our nation's energy crisis. Perpetuating our dependence on dirty fossil fuels will not solve our energy problems. I am writing you today to urge you to resist such amendments and instead promote clean, renewable energy.

Oil companies already have permission to drill on more than 41 million acres, yet now they are working to get the long-standing ban on offshore drilling lifted. As it is, oil and gas companies are only using 18 percent of these leases to which they already have access to drill. Proposing new areas to drill when companies are not drilling everywhere they have permission to underscores the immense greed of the energy industry.

It's time to set goals for America. We need to develop other energy sources. Why is the oil industry not helping to do this?

The push for drilling has everything to do with making the oil companies richer and nothing at all to do with helping cure America's addictive dependence on dirty fossil fuels. It's time to be forward-thinking and progressive.

I don't support for drilling to get out of this energy crisis. With gas prices hovering at around $4.00 a gallon, now is not a good time to make decisions whether or not we drill in Alaska. We've got other problems in this world, too. Mr. McCain also supports drilling offshore & at ANWR, but Obama doesn't support it. I hope we need a president like McCain & Obama to discuss cleaner & efficient energy solutions, not just drill in public lands or offshore. If they do that, then the environmental calamity starts. Tell the candidates that clean energy instead of drilling is good we can hope for a prosperous future ahead! Thank you.

Congress needs to remain strong against anti-environmental amendments! The U.S. must become more responsible in developing sustainable energy.
