Americans are feeling the pain as the cost of living rises. The cost of a barrel of crude oil has doubled in a year, reaching a new record, and higher oil and energy prices affect the entire chain of food production. In 2008, U.S. food prices are expected to rise 4 to 5 percent. That's nearly doubling the already steep increases of the last three years.
The food crisis hits harder in developing countries, where many people already spend up to 80 percent of their income to buy food. Before this crisis, 854 million people worldwide were hungry. As many as 100 million people could fall further into poverty because of soaring prices.
We cannot wait until the next appropriations cycle comes in October. People are hungry now. Urge Congress to release funding immediately for emergency disaster assistance so that we can move quickly to get food to those in need.
We took action on “Congress: Address Rising Food Prices Now!”!

People deserve to eat, it's the most we can do for them. Without food there is just no hope for the future of these people.

My own family cannot afford to buy healthy food, and it's becoming harder to afford anything at all.

I have personally seen dying babies in Africa. No one should go hungry in this world of plenty. Strive to save those who go hungry. Help them to help themselves, but also be brave enough to see the barriers to their stability and help them get the education and access to resources they so desperately need. Every child deserves to be safe and comfortable.

Milk in my town is $4.00 eggs are $3.00 thats is $7.00 by itself. Gas is $4.00 a gallon and takes $45.00 just to fill up the car. Electricity prices are going up, we have all this technology but we can't do anything about the cost of gas and food costs, this just tells us how much we care.

Every human being deserves the right to the basic needs of life. According to Maslow's Hierarchy of needs, every person needs food, clean water and shelter to live a full life. If Americans today are at the risk due to possible foreclosures, then America needs to address poverty immediately. It is irresponsible to ignore the cries of fellow Americans in dire need of simple nourishment. A child life can be saved easily if he has the proper vitamins and minerals. It is cruel and wrong for a child to die so needlessly because it can be prevented with a simple shot or bowl of porridge.

I hope congress & the president can try to do something to bring those rising food prices down because there's many people that are poor, especially if Africa & some Latin American countries who are desperately in need from hunger & famine. I hope that learns a lesson to that. Thank you.

Please increase the Federal Poverty Level and adjust upward the income guidelines and benefit amounts for Food Stamps to reflect the Cost Of Living. Also, increase the Federal Minimum Wage to $9.00 per hour so that working full-time and "making a living" mean the same thing.
Also, please pass a Federal law making it illegal for investors to speculate in commodities that everyone needs to live and work like food stuffs and crude oil/gasoline.

to live, people must eat, and if they can't afford food, they die from hunger.

Quote 'From China to Brazil, countries have begun setting aside tens of thousands of acres for the cultivation of jatropha – a plant many experts say is the most promising source for biodiesel. At the same time, companies from Europe and India have begun buying up land throughout Africa to establish jatropha plantations'.
Shouldnt these lands be used for cultivation of food to feed the hungry? Is it more important to have fuel for excessive use of electricity etc in developed countries at the price of the starvation of so many of the world's population?
It's really sad to know that there are so many hungry while we waste and waste.
