Americans are feeling the pain as the cost of living rises. The cost of a barrel of crude oil has doubled in a year, reaching a new record, and higher oil and energy prices affect the entire chain of food production. In 2008, U.S. food prices are expected to rise 4 to 5 percent. That's nearly doubling the already steep increases of the last three years.
The food crisis hits harder in developing countries, where many people already spend up to 80 percent of their income to buy food. Before this crisis, 854 million people worldwide were hungry. As many as 100 million people could fall further into poverty because of soaring prices.
We cannot wait until the next appropriations cycle comes in October. People are hungry now. Urge Congress to release funding immediately for emergency disaster assistance so that we can move quickly to get food to those in need.
We took action on “Congress: Address Rising Food Prices Now!”!

Isn't withholding food a form of torture? Why would there be any legislative action that would stand in the way of food distribution and food accessibility.

It's to stop the rising cost of food...RIGHT NOW. Because I think that rising food costs can lead to a hunger strike. We must stop rising food costs immediately before hunger strike happens.

People barely make any money to survive. We don't need rising food pices and gas prices.Pretty soon everyone will stop driving, start walking and riding the bus.

I am on a fixed income, and i cannot afford the rising gas and food prices any longer! i wanted to buy a couple of inexpensive things to try to help fix up my low income housing apt that i've been at for 3 years, but i never have the money! that stimulus check isn't going to help me at all, as i need to fix my brakes......and $300 isn't going to even cover that. i don't know what i'm going to do. please help!
