Americans are feeling the pain as the cost of living rises. The cost of a barrel of crude oil has doubled in a year, reaching a new record, and higher oil and energy prices affect the entire chain of food production. In 2008, U.S. food prices are expected to rise 4 to 5 percent. That's nearly doubling the already steep increases of the last three years.
The food crisis hits harder in developing countries, where many people already spend up to 80 percent of their income to buy food. Before this crisis, 854 million people worldwide were hungry. As many as 100 million people could fall further into poverty because of soaring prices.
We cannot wait until the next appropriations cycle comes in October. People are hungry now. Urge Congress to release funding immediately for emergency disaster assistance so that we can move quickly to get food to those in need.
We took action on “Congress: Address Rising Food Prices Now!”!

The idiotic, inefficient and wasteful conversion of corn to ethanol must stop! If there is *ever* to be a viable ethanol alternative, it *must* be derived from cellulosic biomass. The world's population is suffering because the US "leadership" has shown almost no initiative on alternative fuels and energy. Disgraceful!!!!

Not everyone has enough money to purchase food and now that money is being added, no one will be able to eat. Just because you have money, it does not mean that everyone else does too. We are all humans and should help each other, not kill others by starving them!

Food is a necessity that should be available to all people. With the cost of gas and food a lot of people will suffer greatly.
