Americans are feeling the pain as the cost of living rises. The cost of a barrel of crude oil has doubled in a year, reaching a new record, and higher oil and energy prices affect the entire chain of food production. In 2008, U.S. food prices are expected to rise 4 to 5 percent. That's nearly doubling the already steep increases of the last three years.
The food crisis hits harder in developing countries, where many people already spend up to 80 percent of their income to buy food. Before this crisis, 854 million people worldwide were hungry. As many as 100 million people could fall further into poverty because of soaring prices.
We cannot wait until the next appropriations cycle comes in October. People are hungry now. Urge Congress to release funding immediately for emergency disaster assistance so that we can move quickly to get food to those in need.
We took action on “Congress: Address Rising Food Prices Now!”!

People in the poorer countries are hungry, but now it seems that it is going to spread to the west, where a lot of low-income families cannot cope. Crime is definitely going to rise, as a lot of men and women, will try to feed their ever hungry children through theft, burglery and other unacceptable crimes. Why is the oil so high, when it is being extracted from the very country where all prices are so high?? Poverty is a very serious issue, and not a good outlook for our children, and grandchildren!

With only a $620. per month amount that I live on, and the rising costs of food and gas, and everything, I am about to have to put my health and life at risk to go back to work. I have numerous heart attacks and I will have to lie about my health to get a job.

Of course the rise in food cost is caused by the increase in gas prices which is unconcionable as it is. I am a low-income senior citizen and I run out of food and money for it by the middle of the month. Unless our Legislators do something more than talk and speculate about the effects of the food prices as well as gas prices, then none of them deserve to remain on our Nation's pay-role. They should be replaced. Because something CAN be done about this and no one is really trying! And meanwhile, it is a handy way for our leaders to solve the problem of overpopulation, which may seem to some like an over-reaction to what is happening to us, but I think it is time for us to express our opinions. Now, they need to listen.

AND NEXT YEAR, WITH A NEW CONGRESS AND PRESIDENT, LET'S REVISIT THOSE DAMNABLE FARM SUBSIDIES TO THOSE WHO DON'T NEED IT, AND OVERIDE THE LOBBYISTS! THEN ADDRESS THE STUPIDITY AND WASTE OF ENERGY BY SHIPPING AMERICAN GRAIN IN AMERICAN SHIPS IN FAVOR OF BUYING IT LOCALLY! I WOULD LIKE TO START A GROCERY STORE CAMPAIGN CALLED, "A DIME A TIME", TO ENABLE SHOPPERS IF THEY CHOOSE, TO CONTRIBUTE A DIME EACH TIME THEY CHECK OUT, TO BUY SEED TO BE DISTRIBUTED THROUGH CARE, OXFAM, E.G. BUT NOT THE WAY WE PRESENTLY CONTRIBUTE.
