Americans are feeling the pain as the cost of living rises. The cost of a barrel of crude oil has doubled in a year, reaching a new record, and higher oil and energy prices affect the entire chain of food production. In 2008, U.S. food prices are expected to rise 4 to 5 percent. That's nearly doubling the already steep increases of the last three years.
The food crisis hits harder in developing countries, where many people already spend up to 80 percent of their income to buy food. Before this crisis, 854 million people worldwide were hungry. As many as 100 million people could fall further into poverty because of soaring prices.
We cannot wait until the next appropriations cycle comes in October. People are hungry now. Urge Congress to release funding immediately for emergency disaster assistance so that we can move quickly to get food to those in need.
We took action on “Congress: Address Rising Food Prices Now!”!

We are all part of the same race. It is important that we not only take care of our own, but the entire race.

At the rate we're going in this economy, with gas prices, healthcare, and food costs, NO ONE will be able to survive on their own. If you're not wealthy, forget it. The middle class is being wiped out and soon enough, there will only be Upper Class and Lower Class. Upper Class will get every tax break known to man and Lower Class will be (trying) to live off the governmental help. That may not happen though, because us "Lower Class Citizens" won't get the perks like ALL of the illegal immingrents!!! Shoud I stop now or keep going?

The time is NOW to move out of business-as-usual mentality and rise up to do what is moral, humane, and just for every person walking on this planet.
I also agree that, if need be, the "have's" will need to be held accountable and share the wealth! This planet can provide for every body if we take the time to make conscious choices! The time is NOW.

You people have spent billions to kill people in this horrid war. It is time you spend billions to feed the starving in this world. How about doing something positive for once. I doubt that the Creator is smiling on the United States of America these days.

This must be a priority. People can make do without a lot of things in their lives but food is certainly not one.

I myself can barely afford to buy groceries anymore with the gas & food prices going up everyday. I am a single mom struggling to pay all my bills & keep food on the table. Stop this nonsense! Food will keep going up as long as you allow gas prices to keep increasing. We need alternative sources of energy such as solar and wind power!

We are fast creating a 2-strata society worldwide--the haves and the have-nots. In order for all to survive, we must make the necessities of life more easily accessible to those who are not wealthy enough to weather the current economic (and real) storms. The "haves" have to step up and give back. If they (large corporations in particular) won't do it voluntarily, we must start regulating the profits they make on the backs of the poor and the vanishing middle class.
