Because They're Worth It: Keep the Body Shop Green!
Target:Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones, CEO, L'Oreal Sponsored by:Breast Cancer Fund
Protect the planet. Oppose animal testing. Support community trade. The Body Shop's core values have always distinguished it from mainstream businesses - and made it an icon within the progressive community.
Last month, this pillar of corporate social responsibility was sold to L'Oreal, the world's largest cosmetics company known for its popular brands such as Maybelline, Kiehl's and Lancome. Now, we're at risk of losing an important ally in the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics.
To date, over 300 companies have signed the Compact for Safe Cosmetics, a pledge to replace chemicals linked to cancer, birth defects and other serious health concerns with safe alternatives. The Compact is being promoted by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, a coalition of women's health and environmental organizations coordinated by the Breast Cancer Fund. Shockingly, our government allows the $35 billion beauty industry to use unlimited amounts of chemicals in everyday products such as lotions, shampoos and make-up with no required safety testing whatsoever.
The Body Shop signed the Compact in 2004, but L'Oreal refused and thus far, has made no effort to replace or even acknowledge the toxic ingredients in its products.
L'Oreal's acquisition of The Body Shop won't be official until May 1st. That's why we must act now to ensure that L'Oreal honors The Body Shop's commitment to safe cosmetics!
We signed the “Because They're Worth It: Keep the Body Shop Green!” petition!

The main reason to shop at The Body Shop is that you know that *everything* is animal friendly. Once that's taken away, it's just like any other make-up/skin care store.

I am a strong proponent of all-natural, environmentally conscious cosmetics. I tell all my friends to be aware of these issues when purchasing those products, and recommend them to stores and companies that care. It is critical that The Body Shop, a leader in the field, maintain that status and reputation it has had. If not, it will be a great loss, and I will be sure to inform people of the situation.

The Body Shop's commitment to the Compact for Safe Cosmetics must be kept or it will lose many customers, including myself. Animal testing is horrible for any reason, but for cosmetics is it totally worthless torture and must be stopped!

Any changes to The Body Shop's policies will definitely do damage to their bottom line--so do the right thing, and stick with what's worked for so long. You'll be sorry if you don't!

What made the Body Shop a worthwhile investment was is loyal following. You will lose that, and diminish the value of your investment, if you do not allow the Body Shop to maintain its values.

To Whom It May Concern:
I believe in this age of technology and understanding, there is no further need for animal testing. I hope that you continue to keep The Body Shop as a leader in social awareness. I'm sure that you bought them because of the profits it can bring you. I urge to remember that the reason it's so popular is because of the stand it took. I think people will stop buying if that is changed. I know I will.
