Baby Boomers Set to Lose Medicare Services! Sign the Letter to Congress

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: American Medical Association Patients' Action Netw
With over 3.2 million baby boomers becoming eligible for Medicare by 2010, doctor payment cuts will create a medical care crisis for America’s seniors! Congress made a solemn promise to America's seniors to supply more affordable medical care, but now they’re limiting seniors’ access to doctors, making it harder for them to get the care they need. If we don't act soon, older Americans will have a harder time finding medical and surgical specialists, and have to travel farther to see them. More Medicare patients will be forced go to expensive emergency rooms - not a doctor’s office - for routine care. And doctors will not be able to purchase new medical equipment and information technology. Urge your Senators to make good on their promise to older adults by saying no to Medicare pay cuts.

Success! With bi-partisan majorities in both the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate, Congress over-turned the president’s veto of Medicare doctor payment cuts on July 15, 2008.

Dear [Decision maker],

Please make good on your promise to America's elderly by stopping Medicare pay cuts.

With over 3.2 million baby boomers becoming eligible for Medicare in three short years, and a government-predicted shortage of 85,000 doctors by 2020, doctor payment cuts will create an access-to-care crisis for America's seniors.

If Congress doesn't act soon, doctors will be forced to defer the purchase of new medical equipment and information technology; seniors will have a harder time finding medical and surgical specialists and will have to travel greater distances to see a doctor; and more Medicare patients will be forced go to expensive emergency rooms for routine care that could have been treated in a doctor's office.

I strongly urge you to stop Medicare pay cuts.

Sincerely,

Most baby boomers have paid into social security since their first pay checks and knew, because we were told so, that this money would be safety, survival, and health care after working age. To change the rules at this time is cruel, immoral, and should not even be a legal possibility and mistreatment for these citizens. Lies and greed or honor the system in place; do not allow the insurance corporations, the pharmaceutical corporations, and any other corporations seeking to totally undo the contracts of country and citizens and the fiduciary responsibilities in place and owing to the people who paid for it.

We work for years and pay into the system with our taxes, now you tell us the help we need won't be available to us when we need it? This is one of the problems with the US right now: the government can't be trusted. Congress members will never have to worry about their health care, they will always receive the best. For those of us who elected them? So what if you can't afford to see a doctor, I'm taken care of and that is all that matters to me. Guess what Congress? We matter, we count! Give us the health care we deserve.

I am 30 and am FORCED by our worthless government to pay into Social Security, et al, knowing FULL WELL that that money will NOT be there by the time I retire. Oh, did I mention that I'll have to be 70 to receive a decent amount of money? Isn't 70 the average life expectancy of a US citizen?? Our government thinks it's so clever, and unfortunately, 99% of the population is falling for it. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!

The elderly have contributed to the growth and stability of this country. If greed is a physician's or government's motive, the evil has overtaken the country.
