Join Deepak Chopra: Tell Presidential Candidates to Propose Real Global Warming Solutions!

It's about time American politicians stop paying lip service to global warming and start proposing real solutions!

Our 2008 presidential candidates will have to deal with the greatest environmental problem we have ever faced. As citizens of a country that is one of the world's biggest polluters, we must make sure that they don't just talk about it, but actually have a detailed plan for combating it.

An aggressive plan to combat global warming must include:
  • Imposing a cap on CO2 emissions across the country and sticking to it, without special rules for rich companies.
  • Increasing fuel efficiency standards dramatically for commuter vehicles as well as commercial trucks.
  • Cleaning up our current electric and other power plants.
  • Investing in alternative, cleaner energies such as wind power, and providing incentives for companies who develop and use these technologies.
Please join Deepak Chopra today in telling the 2008 presidential candidates to make solutions to global warming a top priority.

Dear presidential candidate,

I stand with Deepak Chopra in urging you to make global warming a priority for your campaign.

I want to know that you have a detailed and aggressive plan to combat global warming, and will follow through with this plan.

This plan must include, among other things:

  • Imposing a cap on CO2 emissions across the country and sticking to it, without special rules for rich companies.

  • Increasing fuel efficiency standards dramatically for commuter vehicles as well as commercial trucks.

  • Cleaning up our current electric and other power plants.

  • Investing in alternative, cleaner energies such as wind power, and providing incentives for companies who develop and use these technologies.
As citizens of a country that is one of the world's biggest polluters, we must step up now. If we don't, the consequences will be devastating.

Sincerely,

Global warming and the need for substitute sources of fuel is old news. Even Republican Vice President Nelson Rockefeller was working on an energy policy to support development of alternative fuels as far back as 1975. We've got to get this show on the road because there will be no way to undo the damage once it's done. It wouldn't hurt our damaged world reputation either to look less like the pigs we can be.

No excuses. Don't let the auto makers wiggle out of this. Don't let the oil companies continue to rule the world with their dirty product. Renewable energy--not more drilling!

We need to start educating people and our children in schools much more in details about global warming and open their eyes how they can do their part on solving this crisis that is important for every single living creature on this planet.

If you distinguish yourself as a candidate who will do more than pay lip service to fighting global warming, you will attract millions of voters who view this issue as a top priority.

We need to start thinking out of the box or the oil field as the case may be. Alternative, renewable, and clean fuels must be a priority along with cleaning up the current sources of energy.

Please take climate change seriously, and please tell me that you recognize that doing nothing about climate change will harm the economy much more than taking action to prevent and mitigate it now.

Formulate a plan with experts in solar and wind power to replace the use of fossil fuels for energy consumption. Stop the expansion of drilling for oil/gas in the United States - it is a waste of tax payer dollars and profits no one but Big Oil and their cronies. Stop constructing new nuclear power plants until a way is discovered to make the waste products none toxic. Create convenient, economical, clean public transportion systems. I think that the next President of the United States should consider working with the people of New Orleans to create a model green city. Since it has to be rebuilt anyway, why not use the opportunity to show the creativity and commitment of the American people to change our country and set an example for the rest of the world.

Give us details! Give us well-defined paths to finding solutions. We demand a CO2 emissions cap. We must raise fuel efficiency standards substantially. Clean up our present power plants. Invest in "green" energy sources, and reward corporations who develop and use them.

Please reign in the oil speculators and realize we cannot "drill" our way out of this energy crisis and high gas prices.
