Demand Healthcare for Our Heroes

Target: U.S. Senate; House of Representatives
Sponsored by: Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)
The men and women who fight for our freedom and safety should NOT have to fight to get the healthcare they deserve.

More than 20,000 brave soldiers have been injured while serving in the current "war on terror." Despite these sacrifices, Congress recently tried to slash the budget for the VA's traumatic brain injury care and research centers that so many of our wounded troops are depending on. Congress needs to know that anything short of fully funded healthcare and benefits for our veterans is unacceptable.

Our veterans have earned the right to high quality healthcare. Sign the Healthcare for Our Heroes Petition to demand that Congress hold up its end of the bargain and provide full funding for veterans' healthcare and benefits.
deadline: 11-11-2006
goal: 8,000

Dear Decision Maker,

As Veterans Day approaches, I am reminded of the extreme sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform. These brave people have answered the call to duty to protect our nation and to defend our way of life. Over 1 million troops have served in the current "war on terror" and more than 20,000 of them have been injured in the line of duty.

Their sacrifice should be rewarded with the care, respect, and honor they have earned. Yet, Congress recently tried to slash the budget for the VA's traumatic brain injury care and research centers which many of our wounded troops are counting on. Worse yet, the Department of Veterans Affairs which handles healthcare and benefits for our returned soldiers currently has a backlog of more than 800,000 claims and cases pending with no plan to reduce it. Those 800,000 cases represent real people -- veterans who've served our country and their families -- who need our help and are not getting it.

[Your comment]

I call on you to honor the extreme sacrifices of our veterans by fully funding veterans' healthcare and benefits. It is the least we can do to thank them for everything they do for us and for our country.

Sincerely,

I think and know they need the health care they should take a look at the veteran;s hospitals. It a shame I am talking about the vets from the last wars.

Our veterans should have the best health care possible. If it isn't as good as our Congressmen's, our Congressmen should be ashamed of themselves.

We have asked them to go into harm's way to protect us, so it only makes sense to thank them by giving them good healthcare.

So, you ask the men and women of this country to fight in an unjustified war and risk their lives, then take a cut of their healthcare? That's the government's way of saying thank you alright.

Veterans serve our country bravely. Some of their health problems are due to that service. We owe it to them to be sure they have the very best health care.

To ask people to put their lives on the line for you, and then deny them medical care for injuries suffered during their service is hypocritical. Not only would I not vote for such a person/s and encourage my friends not to do so, I would go further than that and make sure other voters know where candidates stand on healthcare for veterans.

This is an outrage! These men and women fight for our country and lay their lives on the line, no questions asked. They deserve to be treated with the highest quality of healthcare! Congress needs to get it's act together now!!!! Take Care of those who take such good care of our country!

Because they put their lives on the line for others and they deserve to be treated with respect. Wouldnt you want that if it was you?!!!! They risk their lives to insure you are safe and you should give them help back.

You ask and expect our veterans to give their all and they do. The least this gov't can do is give them decent healthcare for life. Including National Guards and Reservists. We have to fight for everything a serviceman gets and that is not right, when you hand-out free services to undocumented immagrants. Where's the justice in that?

It's embarassing to have to even sign a petition like this. What does it say about our country? Something like this reveals fundamental flaws that need to be addressed. Let's start here. It doesn't take much bravery. I don't know anyone on any side of the playing field that would protest (except maybe Rush or O'Reiley or the like--with them you never know what issue they'll attack for publicity)to our funding injured troops with the best medical care available. Period!
