Demand Healthcare for Our Heroes

Target: U.S. Senate; House of Representatives
Sponsored by: Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)
The men and women who fight for our freedom and safety should NOT have to fight to get the healthcare they deserve.

More than 20,000 brave soldiers have been injured while serving in the current "war on terror." Despite these sacrifices, Congress recently tried to slash the budget for the VA's traumatic brain injury care and research centers that so many of our wounded troops are depending on. Congress needs to know that anything short of fully funded healthcare and benefits for our veterans is unacceptable.

Our veterans have earned the right to high quality healthcare. Sign the Healthcare for Our Heroes Petition to demand that Congress hold up its end of the bargain and provide full funding for veterans' healthcare and benefits.
deadline: 11-11-2006
goal: 8,000

Dear Decision Maker,

As Veterans Day approaches, I am reminded of the extreme sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform. These brave people have answered the call to duty to protect our nation and to defend our way of life. Over 1 million troops have served in the current "war on terror" and more than 20,000 of them have been injured in the line of duty.

Their sacrifice should be rewarded with the care, respect, and honor they have earned. Yet, Congress recently tried to slash the budget for the VA's traumatic brain injury care and research centers which many of our wounded troops are counting on. Worse yet, the Department of Veterans Affairs which handles healthcare and benefits for our returned soldiers currently has a backlog of more than 800,000 claims and cases pending with no plan to reduce it. Those 800,000 cases represent real people -- veterans who've served our country and their families -- who need our help and are not getting it.

[Your comment]

I call on you to honor the extreme sacrifices of our veterans by fully funding veterans' healthcare and benefits. It is the least we can do to thank them for everything they do for us and for our country.

Sincerely,

[Your name]

"War is a racket." The current war OF terror is no exception. It has nothing to do with protecting true American values but everything to do with profiteering. The liars and thieves who facilitated 9/11 are the same ones who are cynically exploiting the noble instincts of American soldiers to wage war for profit and power. It is no surprise that these crooks toss them on the scrap heap when they are no longer useful.

They earned it. They literally put their lives on the line for the many Americans they have never met. It's time we did something for them!

Health care is one of the most important needs of all citizens of our great country. And for those who are willing to serve to defend us during times of war, we should be there for them when they get injured or sick. They are our hero's and we say that we greatly respect their contribution for our freedom. But when it comes to supplying them with needed health care, we need to put our money where our mouth is. Either we really love & respect them or we don't.

Our veteran's should not have to fight for what they were promised. These cuts are a disgrace to our men and women in uniform who are ready to fight whatever battle they are sent to. They don't have the luxury of having a political view about our foreign policy and international relations---they just have to go and do the best job they can with the situation they are given. We PROMISED THEM...don't make it all a lie. Cuts in TRICARE, will hurt the families and retirees even more.

These ladies and gentlemen are protecting us all and deserve everything they need to keep them healthy and strong. I understand that there is a considerable wait for veterans who are currently seeking medical aid from the Veteran's Hospitals.this should also be eliminated. why are we making them feel like we don't care about them??? SHAME ON CONGRESS FOR DOING THIS TO OUR VETERANS!!!!

I am a disabled veteran and I deserve it and so does every service person and veteran. We were promised. We risked our lives and futures for our country, so have the decency to supply appropriate health care. Semper Fi!

All Armed Forces personnel deserve the best in health care. They are risking their lives for our country and how sad that they are not provided with better health care after risking or sacrificing their lives to our Nation! It is a great injustice to our military to not provide them the best in Health Care.
