Demand Healthcare for Our Heroes

Target: U.S. Senate; House of Representatives
Sponsored by: Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)
The men and women who fight for our freedom and safety should NOT have to fight to get the healthcare they deserve.

More than 20,000 brave soldiers have been injured while serving in the current "war on terror." Despite these sacrifices, Congress recently tried to slash the budget for the VA's traumatic brain injury care and research centers that so many of our wounded troops are depending on. Congress needs to know that anything short of fully funded healthcare and benefits for our veterans is unacceptable.

Our veterans have earned the right to high quality healthcare. Sign the Healthcare for Our Heroes Petition to demand that Congress hold up its end of the bargain and provide full funding for veterans' healthcare and benefits.
deadline: 11-11-2006
goal: 8,000

Dear Decision Maker,

As Veterans Day approaches, I am reminded of the extreme sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform. These brave people have answered the call to duty to protect our nation and to defend our way of life. Over 1 million troops have served in the current "war on terror" and more than 20,000 of them have been injured in the line of duty.

Their sacrifice should be rewarded with the care, respect, and honor they have earned. Yet, Congress recently tried to slash the budget for the VA's traumatic brain injury care and research centers which many of our wounded troops are counting on. Worse yet, the Department of Veterans Affairs which handles healthcare and benefits for our returned soldiers currently has a backlog of more than 800,000 claims and cases pending with no plan to reduce it. Those 800,000 cases represent real people -- veterans who've served our country and their families -- who need our help and are not getting it.

[Your comment]

I call on you to honor the extreme sacrifices of our veterans by fully funding veterans' healthcare and benefits. It is the least we can do to thank them for everything they do for us and for our country.

Sincerely,

[Your name]

As a veteran of this great country. I proudly served over 20 years in the US Navy and would do it again if my country calls me. I really belived that our leader should make sure that the men and women that serve our country so wonderfully should never worry about the quality of healthcare for them and there family. Comgress, veterans deserve high quality hearthcare. Please take care of us as we have gave so much for you!

Congressmen: Our military is our life-line. They put themselves in harms way often to death. I cannot understand how anyone would not provide complete health and injury medical attention without question to all that need the care. This shoud be at to costs to them as they have already paid with their service. Respectfully, Chess Neff

Our veterans who have and are fighting for our freedom deserve better than what they get from our government. They deserve the best healthcare available. I don't really understand why our Congress hesitates to give our vets the very best, after all it doesn't come out of your pocket it comes from the American Taxpayer. Thank you.

I am a registered nurse at a veteran's hospital & see 1st hand the physical & psychological ravages that war causes. It is criminal not to support our Veterans when they return to civilian life after having incurred the damages that war always causes. The only ones who benefit are the international arms dealers & international bankers.

My husband has been in the Air Force for over 23 years. He has served his country willingly and with honor. He and the rest of the men and women in today's military deserve quality health care in return for that commitment. Don't let congress shortchange them. Many come back from deployments with mental and physical health issues that need to be addressed. Our country can't afford NOT to address those issues.

As a disabled vet, I know how hard the VA tries to take care of us with the reduced budgets they keep getting. FULL funding is necessary to keep the VA capable of caring for the disabled vets the Bush Butts are creating(and ignoring as much as possible)everyday

With the sacrifices our military make for us their health care should be of the highest quality. It needs to include the best forms of prosthetic devices available and home health while needed. Sincerly Veronica Gores.

It's time for cowardly, draft-dodging congressmen to put their money where their blabbing mouths are and do something for the people who are not cowardly draft-dodgers.

We're always told, "Support our troops," and that's what we do. But cutting benefits for such things as health care for these brave men and women, ready, willing and able to put their lives on the line for us in the cause of liberty, is atrocious. Let's not abandon them when they need health care.

Think about what kind of healthcare you would expect your own family to receive. Go somewhere and pray about it.

If you are prepared to serve your country, therefore you are prepared to suffer the consequences of nasty injuries which will prevent you to live a decent normal life. It is therefore the duty of Congress to take care of those who have suffered through the hands of the enemies. They deserve the best, instead of being left out in the cold. I myself am a Vietnam Vet and had to attend delayed stress councelling. So COngress stop being so harsh on these men in uniform.
