Every day, more than 700 women are abused or sexually assaulted by their partner - and four are murdered.
If Congress fails to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), these numbers could get a whole lot worse. With passage of VAWA in 1994, rates of domestic violence incidents have dropped by almost 50% and incidents of rape are down by 60%.
VAWA is up for reauthorization in September and we
must send a loud and clear message that 700 women a day is 700 too many. Urge your Congressmember to reauthorize VAWA. It provides desperately needed shelter, counseling, medical, and justice services for the 700 women and children who are affected by domestic violence every single day in this country.
There is a good chance that VAWA could be cut. If it is, funding for domestic violence shelters is at risk. Children who witness domestic violence are at even greater risk. And, we may slow the progress that we've made in preventing violence against women.
We signed the “Reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act” petition!

Too many women go everyday of their being abused by am man that is suppose to love, honor and respect them. Allowing these animals to continue this abuse is crime in it self. If we don't stop this, who will? My 38. Do something or we will.

You must re-authorize this Act! Millions of women & girls are counting on you! Cruelty towards women only proves a man's weakness! We bore you! If it weren't for us, you wouldn't exist! We are your Mothers, Sisters, Daughters, Grandmothers, Aunts, Cousins, Family Matriarchs & Best Friends. We are Human Beings! True strength isn't determined by chromosomes or sex organs, but by character, intelligence & wisdom. A man who treats others well and respects women is truly strong & noble. A man who brutalizes women & others is the true "weaker sex". He's a bully & coward who doesn't have the moxie to mess with a man his own size! This isn't a joke! Women & Children are hurt inside and out. Kids become delinquent & violent because of this. If we don't crack down on violent crime against Women & Girls, we will suffer, for we are the backbone of the Human race. We are the nuturers, wise ones, the ones who carry you for 9 months in their bellies. We can contribute much to society. Too much Testosterone produces agression, thus, we have violence. We ladies need respect. Noone, male or female, young or old, deserve violence! Thank you.

being an er nurse i have seen the abuse and death too often. and it seems no matter how well we collected physical evidence the perps either walked free or recieved a slap on the wrist. the worst was seeing women come in and die from an attack after leaving abuser and filing an ineffective restraining order. our judicial system is as liable as the perp in those cases.

This issue must remain in the forefront of our consciousness. We, as human beings, must endeavor to eradicate violence, aimed at any of our fellows. No rational person could find it possible to ignore the damage done to our society, by the heinous acts of violence, perpetrated against women and children.

Having been a victim of Domestic Violence myself, I know and fully understand firsthand just what "HOOPS" you have to jump through just to get any kind of help! Please, do not continue to make this despicable behavior ACCEPTABLE!

Domestic violence is an ongoing problem, and probably always will be. Please, do not make those numbers rise even more. Only by pushing constant viligance can we really fight violence in our homes.

Well, they can no longer turn a blind eye and deaf ear! The hospitals amd morgues are full of abused, battered raped, and dead children, teens and adult women.Whom are we to turn to?? The police are insensitive as many of them are frustrated and are abuser's themselves! So we the law makers and we have decided from now on at the polls and in other venues we shall make a change and be heard. Enough is enough and when men hold women in a better light of respect the prisons will be less full and women can live a life of empty fear.

Every one of us has the right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness". We have been promised by our government, in numerous documents, that they will uphold our rights, protect and serve us. Why wouldn't this act be reauthorized? It is to help, serve and protect people who are in need. Who wants a future full of women and children who are cowering in corners, black-n-blue, and crying? I think this should be reauthorized and amended to include men who are raped, molested and abused as well. The world has so many victims, but not enough support to help those victims become functional survivors. Help us and we will grow strong enough to help the others that come after us. I stand up so that my voice can be heard; I was a victim of child abuse, molestation, rape and incest. I struggled through with the help of numerous therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, group therapies, halfway programs, and alternative schools. At the age of fourteen I attempted to take my life to stop the pain. If I hadn't had the support network that I was blessed to have, I would never had made it through the pain to be able to stand up for survivors rights today.

Some of my friends have had signifigant others or husbands who are violent. It is a vicious cycle which can only be stopped by education, psychological counseling, including 12 step groups help to establish stability for families, and rehabilitation for perpetrators.

I have been a victim of violence and so have several women in my family and also other women who I barely know. It makes me ill to see how women justify not only mental abuse but physical abuse that has been inflicked upon them by their partners or strangers and instead of fighting back because of lack of support from frends, family and agencys, rather keep quiet about it and suffer terrible mental anquish not to mention, anxiety disorders and severe lack of confidence. We can even be convinced that it was our fault. No one has the right, under any circumstance to take your peace and happiness from you. Abuse in any form is damaging and so distructive.
