Target: Einar K. Guofinnsson, Minister of Fisheries, Iceland
Sponsored by: Care2
Iceland's whaling industry is pushing for permits to kill 100 minke whales as well as some fin whales, which are an endangered species.

Dear Minister Guofinnsson,

I am deeply disappointed to hear that Iceland is considering issuing permits to hunt whales this spring, and I urge you to reconsider this plan.

As a wildlife lover and conservationist, I am concerned about the future of whales, especially as climate change causes rapid changes in their ocean habitats with unknown impacts on these majestic creatures.

And as a traveler and consumer, I would strongly consider visiting Iceland to whale-watch, but only if your country maintains the ban on whaling that you implemented in August of 2007.

Please do not issue any permits to kill whales, and protect your beautiful nation's whales in stead.
We signed the “Iceland Could Resume Whaling - Please Act” petition!

I am just a simple human-being that asks that you deny ANYONE a whaling permit. Mistakes were made in the past and those can't be changed, but we do not have to repeat them in the future. In the name of kindness, mercy, respect and love, I beg you to use your political power and sound judgement to please prevent these atrocities from ever happening again.

I have visited Iceland and met the former president. I respect the country, its long history and its eco-friendly economy, but whaling is unacceptable and will cost the country more than it can possibly gain.

Please do not resume hunting for whales. I respect your beautiful country and would like to visit it, but if you hunt whales I will never go to Iceland.

I find it abhorrent that anyone would insist on dining on whale flesh nowadays when there are so many other edibles available even for flesh eaters.

Hunting whales for food is one thing. But, if that's not the intent, please don't issue permits; protect them instead.
