Target: Einar K. Guofinnsson, Minister of Fisheries, Iceland
Sponsored by: Care2
Iceland's whaling industry is pushing for permits to kill 100 minke whales as well as some fin whales, which are an endangered species.

Iceland's Minister of Fisheries will make a final decision soon and whaling could begin in May. Please sign our petition today and urge Iceland to stop whaling forever!

Dear Minister Guofinnsson,

I am deeply disappointed to hear that Iceland is considering issuing permits to hunt whales this spring, and I urge you to reconsider this plan.

As a wildlife lover and conservationist, I am concerned about the future of whales, especially as climate change causes rapid changes in their ocean habitats with unknown impacts on these majestic creatures.

And as a traveler and consumer, I would strongly consider visiting Iceland to whale-watch, but only if your country maintains the ban on whaling that you implemented in August of 2007.

Please do not issue any permits to kill whales, and protect your beautiful nation's whales in stead.
We signed the “Iceland Could Resume Whaling - Please Act” petition!

Please don't let Iceland resume killing these magnificent creatures. I would hate to see them on the endangered list or worse, extinct.

Please deny all whaling permits. You are too admirable a country to preside over the extirmination of a species.

Why does Iceland feel they can take lives that are not theirs to take. You are not only killing wonderful animals uselessly, you are also efecting our waters which in turn effects the entire ecosystem. Im appalled and will be sure not to visit Iceland any time soon.

Please deny all whaling permits. The whales are already fewer in number and struggling without allowing more humans to kill them.

How sad that once again these beautiful creatures, friend to man, will be hunted down again simply for profit. It is wrong, wrong, wrong!

I'm sure there is food in abundance in Iceland. Why kill an endangered, beautiful species?

I beg of you not to kill these beautiful creatures of the sea. Our world is being destroyed as it is, please leave the whales alone to live in peace as the world should do. thank you

Please protect these beautiful creatures. Do not kill them. They are innocent. Just doing what they were put on this earth to do. Leave them alone.

I have been looking at Iceland as a possible vacation destination to visit within the next year. I would much rather spend my tourism dollars going out on a boat & viewing these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat than eating one!!!

Whales are highly intelligent, sentient beings. The death of their calf affects them as much as a human baby death affects a mother or father. SAVE these beloved whales and we save our own beings.
