Stand Strong Against Polar Bear Hunting

Target: Dale Hall, Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
Sponsored by: Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund
Hunting polar bears is illegal in the United States. The recent decision to list the polar bear as "threatened" under the Endangered Species Act closed a gaping loophole in the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) that had allowed wealthy U.S. trophy hunters to kill polar bears in Canada, where such hunting is legal, and import polar bear trophies into the U.S.

But now Safari Club International, a big game trophy hunters' club, is suing the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to reverse this ban on importing polar bear trophies. More than 900 polar bear heads and hides had been imported into the U.S since 1994 because of the MMPA loophole.

We have to do everything we can to prevent the polar bear's downward spiral. We need the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to stand strong on polar bear trophy hunting - urge Director Dale Hall to uphold the ban on importing polar bear hunting trophies from Canada.

Dear Director Hall,

I am writing in support of the recent ban on importation of polar bear trophies from Canada. I am disturbed to learn about Safari Club International's attempts to reverse this ban.

Polar bear populations are already declining due to melting sea ice, and bears continue to be stressed and threatened due to oil and gas exploration. Polar bears do not need the added stress from trophy hunting.

Polar bears are listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act and should be protected. Please stand firm on prohibiting the importation of polar bear parts.

Sincerely,
[Your name here]

Don't let contributing to the extinction of polar bears be your legacy. Your name will be in history books as the person who help hasten the demise of polar bears.

Living in Canada..our Government should NOT be 'exporting' polar bears 'parts' period!!! They are fighting for their lives as it is with global warming and their habitat disappearing by oil 'explorers'. YES..everyone SHOULD sign this ban...concerned Canadians as well...You would never know with the actions of our CDN government, that the polar bear is our national symbol!!!

The Polar Bears are fighting for the lives against global warming. They shouldn't have to also fight against ignorant, ruthless people as well. As legislators you should have a humaritarian care. You are elected to fight for those who can't fight for themselves. I am guessing that you must of forgot that or just be too absorbed in your rewards to forget what you are meant to stand for.

Trophy hunting is disgusting in any form but picking on a species that is already suffering attacks to its wellbeing on many fronts is inhumane and extraordinarily selfish. Please do not reverse this ban. For the polar bears' sake, for God's sake let's live and let live.

Every species is important to preserving the Earth's balance. Polar bears are increasingly threatened by global warming, and we should be doing everything we can to protect them. Reversing the ban will be a regrettable decision that will cost us more in the long run.

I support the new ban on the importation of polar bear trophies from Canada, I am disturbed to learn that Sarafi club international is trying to reverse this ban, as polar bear hunting is obviously so barbaric and obscene that no civilized nation should allow such an atrocity. With polar bear populations declining due to melting sea ice and habitats disappearing we owe polar bears our care and protection and we owe our children and grandchildren as caretakers of this natural world. bears continue to be stressed and threatened due to oil and gas exploration. Polar bears do not need the added stress from trophy hunting. Polar bears are listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act and should be protected. Please stand firm on prohibiting the importation of polar bear parts. Please act to stand firm and maintain this ban, Thank you for caring sincerely, Sue M Palmer

Dear Director Hall, I beg you to do everything possible to stand firm on the ban on importation of polar bear trophies. There's no excuse for human's love of killing, especially of other creatures who pose no threat. Please help protect these magnificent creatures. Thank you!! Jamie Hunter

Please stop this. What the Safari Club is doing is wrong. People have done enough damage as it is! Why should the polar bear be further threatened by a group of wealthy men, ( who feel insecure about their own manhoods,) take pleasure from killing big mighty polar bears and display their body parts so they can feel like BIG MIGHTY MEN??!! What does this say about the human race if this is allowed to continue??!!

What possible good can come from killing a polar bear. Wouldn't you much rather have your grandchildren see them in the wild than dead on a wall. If the killing continues there will be no more polar bears, how sad would that be.
