Thank Brazil's Zoo for Helping Penguins!

Target: The Niteroi Zoo and President Giselda Candiotto of the Zoonit Foundation
Sponsored by: Care2

In the past month, over four hundred penguins have washed up on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, lost on the way to their annual migration site of the Argentine Patagonia. Although penguins get lost every year in Brazil, there has been an astounding number this year.

It's currently a mystery why there are so many penguins washing up on Brazil's shores this year, but scientists have posed several environmental theories, such as overfishing, pollution and global warming.

Niterói Zoo, the largest in the state of Rio de Janeiro, has taken in many of the surviving penguins. Soon, the Oceanographic Museum in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul will be taking in the survivors to rehabilitate them and prepare them to go back to the wild.

Send a thank you to the Niterói Zoo and president Giselda Candiotto of the Zoonit Foundation, the zoo's rescue relief foundation, for making sure our disoriented friends get well!

Thank you for taking the time and using your resources for this rescue. It seems when the planet is under stress, it is the innocent that suffer the most. It is truly a magnificent thing to do this and my warmest gratitude to all involved in this effort. Thank you!

I don't agree with imprisoning animals for human entertainment; still, I want to thank you for helping these penguins in need.

It is heartening to see people going the extra mile for creatures not native to their area. This is the type of social responsibility we all will need in a future of climate change and global warming. Thank you for such a fine example!

We should be acting as stewards of the earth and its flora and fauna, as you have demonstrated. You did the right thing by taking care of creatures that can't help themselves, and that can't protect themselves from human beings and the damage we are causing to the world.
