Get Big Money Out of Politics

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: Common Cause

Wealthy campaign contributors and their lobbyists wield too much power in our political system. The influence of these big-money interests is a major reason that we cannot find solutions or even have a reasonable debate about health care, jobs, global warming, and many other pressing issues.

If we want to put the power of our democracy fully back into the hands of all Americans, then we need to change the way that we finance elections from top to bottom.

Under a full public financing system -- such as those already in use in Maine, Arizona, and Connecticut, and the one proposed for Congress -- qualified candidates who swear off special interest money and agree to spending limits receive public funds to run a competitive campaign.

Help get the influence of big money out of politics by urging Congress to support the Fair Elections Now Act for full public financing of congressional elections.

Dear [Decision Maker]:

CAPITALISM IS OK. Billionaire rule through puppet politicians isn't. Look who owns Hillary. How can you Americans not rise and denounce your corporate overlords.

amoung all the other MANY good and valid reasons why money ought to be gotten out of US politics is this one: lack of money is causing many good and otherwise qualified people to NOT run for office, thus making this a poorer country in many ways -- we all lose.

Money should NOT play a role in politics. The vote of the people is what's most important - one person, one vote.

All I can say is BUSH is the best thing that has happened to this country at this point in time. Too bad Laura isn't in the race right now against HillBillary and Osama - I mean Nobama. That would be pure good against pure evil. And Hey! The Bush's have an enormous amount of wealth that they could foot the campaign bill themselves. Go Bushes!!!
