Get Big Money Out of Politics

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: Common Cause

Wealthy campaign contributors and their lobbyists wield too much power in our political system. The influence of these big-money interests is a major reason that we cannot find solutions or even have a reasonable debate about health care, jobs, global warming, and many other pressing issues.

If we want to put the power of our democracy fully back into the hands of all Americans, then we need to change the way that we finance elections from top to bottom.

Under a full public financing system -- such as those already in use in Maine, Arizona, and Connecticut, and the one proposed for Congress -- qualified candidates who swear off special interest money and agree to spending limits receive public funds to run a competitive campaign.

Help get the influence of big money out of politics by urging Congress to support the Fair Elections Now Act for full public financing of congressional elections.

Dear [Decision Maker]:

What we need is to let the public elect who we want to represent us.The electorial vote is a joke.I see now why the rest of the world can't stand us.It is to bad we can't get an honest , and capable person to run our country. We need a poor person with a good head on his shoulders in stead of an egotists.

Anything we can do to reduce the impact of private money on the election process will be a step in the direction of democracy, as opposed to plutocracy. The need for money to get elected has left many officeholders in awkward positions. You can help cut back on your exposure. Do it! Now.

I am tied of the government being the exclusive play ground of the Rich. The founders of this country would have been very much opposed to a new aristocracy (with the possible exception of John Adams). Lets level the playing field and allow competence to be the criteria for election instead of wealth.

Big money's ownership and control of the American political system is rotting out our government and nation, as well as degrading the quality of life for American citizens. As if you really could care! America's greatest enemy, at present, is none other than its corporate sector.

Corporations are the biggest threat to our political integrity to date. We MUST remove big money, big corp. and lobbyist from the process of electing our presidents. The system is corrupted by these participants in it.

Things will never change as long as corporate media controls the messages. Why, it is almost as profitable as WAR!!!! Government must regulate to protect and defend our democracy here at home. The greed, sociopathy and corruption is abominable. DO SOMETHING!!!!!! NOW!!!!

It's time to level the playing field for those running for office so that politicians are not limited to those who've accepted bribes from special interests.
