Get Big Money Out of Politics

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: Common Cause

Wealthy campaign contributors and their lobbyists wield too much power in our political system. The influence of these big-money interests is a major reason that we cannot find solutions or even have a reasonable debate about health care, jobs, global warming, and many other pressing issues.

If we want to put the power of our democracy fully back into the hands of all Americans, then we need to change the way that we finance elections from top to bottom.

Under a full public financing system -- such as those already in use in Maine, Arizona, and Connecticut, and the one proposed for Congress -- qualified candidates who swear off special interest money and agree to spending limits receive public funds to run a competitive campaign.

Help get the influence of big money out of politics by urging Congress to support the Fair Elections Now Act for full public financing of congressional elections.

Money is behind campaigns is one of the biggest threats to our democracy. Let's use a full public financing system so we can get rid of special interest money and the parasitic lobbists.

Besides giving public funds to candidates for public office we should also have FREE AIRWAVES for the candidates to campaign on. This way they will need less money. Today to we have a democracy of all the people or just the rich people? No one knows this better than the politicians themselves.

The amounts of money wasted in the present campaign system is obscene, given the huge problems in our country which are underfunded. The influence of big-money interests in the political system is also outrageous.

Stop the influence of big money and limit all finance for elections to public finance. We must use public airways that are leased out to provide free time to candidates.

Take away the PAC, lobbies and anything else that can influence your vote other than me. Anything less is not politics, it's thievery and you should be ashamed of yourselves.

We need a strong, loving government, not a system where we are governed by the concerns of only the wealthiest who have bought a certain candidates favor.

You were hired to promote good government, not to make you and your cronies wealthy at the citizens expense. Do your job or face replacement in the next election.

As the old saying goes, "He who pays the piper calls the tune." Another one says, "You get what you pay for." Another states that the golden rule is that the guy with the gold makes the rules. Most people acknowledge the truth of these sayings. If they are true, then it's self-evident we need to change the way we finance elections.
