Get Big Money Out of Politics

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: Common Cause

Wealthy campaign contributors and their lobbyists wield too much power in our political system. The influence of these big-money interests is a major reason that we cannot find solutions or even have a reasonable debate about health care, jobs, global warming, and many other pressing issues.

If we want to put the power of our democracy fully back into the hands of all Americans, then we need to change the way that we finance elections from top to bottom.

Under a full public financing system -- such as those already in use in Maine, Arizona, and Connecticut, and the one proposed for Congress -- qualified candidates who swear off special interest money and agree to spending limits receive public funds to run a competitive campaign.

Help get the influence of big money out of politics by urging Congress to support the Fair Elections Now Act for full public financing of congressional elections.

Living in the state that recently experienced its most expensive and nastiest advertising funded by OUTSIDE INTERESTS, it is time to take back our elections and political advertising.

Dear Members of Congress: Our democracy is collapsing under the self-serving influence of big-monied interests and their lobbyists who under current media conditions can elect candidates beholden to them. Reclaim our democracy in fact and not name only by supporting and passing the Fair Elections Now Act--now. Thank you, John M. Browning

Let's give everyone an equal footing to be part of the election process. Special interest money muddies up the waters, so let's keep the waters clean!

We need more than this to remedy our CROOKED ELECTIONS; but, it's a start. WE NEED HAND-COUNTED PAPER BALLOTS instead of machines that are hacked to get in the Big-Business-selected candidates! We need Instant Run-off elections! We need fairer rules for Third-party candidates! We need FEWER RESTRICTIONS on voters such as ID restrictions and felony conviction restrictions -- that prevent many poor people from voting and exercising their choices as Americans. But, any reform spotlights how BAD our voting system has become; and the ABSOLUTE NECESSITY of reforming it from top to bottom!

We've become a corrupt body politic. Surely, senators would like to spend their time in Washington working for their constituents, instead of having to raise enough money to rebuild their state to finance their campigns.

Got to REGULATE this grafting, as must be with Everything Else! (Then, scrap the electoral college, it's a sham).
