Get Big Money Out of Politics

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: Common Cause

Wealthy campaign contributors and their lobbyists wield too much power in our political system. The influence of these big-money interests is a major reason that we cannot find solutions or even have a reasonable debate about health care, jobs, global warming, and many other pressing issues.

If we want to put the power of our democracy fully back into the hands of all Americans, then we need to change the way that we finance elections from top to bottom.

Under a full public financing system -- such as those already in use in Maine, Arizona, and Connecticut, and the one proposed for Congress -- qualified candidates who swear off special interest money and agree to spending limits receive public funds to run a competitive campaign.

Help get the influence of big money out of politics by urging Congress to support the Fair Elections Now Act for full public financing of congressional elections.

At some point we,ll have to abandon the illicit deficits run up by these crooks. There is nothing of value to the American people for all these trillions of deficit dollars created to make"special interests" more powerful !

This is an idea whose time has come and it represents the only way to keep well healed special interests from scewing the legislative process away from the interests of the country and its citizens.

The truth about this issue is that ONLY those who are rich and have rich friends are the ONLY one's who can attain an elected office 99% of the time which leaves the little guy/gals out of the equation altogether. It would be more than nice to see someone who is not rich nor is the son or daughter of someone who is rich to be able to let the people know of their ideas and have the chance to actually take the necessary steps to achieve what is now impossible. I really think it's past time for ALL Americans to have the chance to help this country by being given the chance to stand by the rich candidates and compare their respective views without constraints.

Our forefathers rightly perceived the dangers of excessively powerful government. This power is exacerbated by the collusion with big business to the detriment of the rights and liberties of all other citizens.
