Give Us a Plan for a Financially-Secure America!

Target: 2008 Presidential Candidates
Sponsored by: Divided We Fail
It used to be that if you worked hard, raised your family and played by the rules, you'd be OK. But that's no longer true. Today, the burden of saving for retirement, paying for health care and supporting aging parents falls much more heavily on individuals.

For many people, the American dream is eroding. The presidential candidates have said too little about the long-term financial security crisis Americans face every day. Over the next couple weeks, the presidential candidates will do their best to reach voters in the final key primaries. Now, during this critical period for both sides, it is time to demand that leaders develop a real plan of action.

Dear [Presidential Candidate],

I believe that Americans who work hard and play by the rules deserve to be able to retire without worrying about their financial situation. Sadly, this cornerstone of the American dream is crumbling.

Millions of Americans are barely scraping by in today's economy. Saving for the future is near impossible. And traditional sources of retirement income, like pension plans, are disappearing.

[Your comment here]

It's not a partisan issue - it's an American issue. Every presidential candidate should be talking about it, and laying out clear, concrete and detailed plans for how to solve the crisis facing all of us.

I am appalled that my great-grandchildren will be paying off the immense debt which has accrued over the past seven-plus years. Taking our country from a surplus to a huge deficit is not responsible.

My fear is that I have no security in my future. It doesn't matter that I have worked 2 jobs since I was 18, put myself through College, and saved and invested wisely and all that can be blown away with one major illnes!

Stop dependence on all hydrocarbon products! Stop war in Iraq!Universal healthcare same as fed representatives. Encourage research and entrpeneurage in alternative energy. Reward cooperations who actively convert to "viable" green technolgy both in their workplace, plants, and their products. Without encouragement to convert companies won't convert.

What is your plan to keep a once relatively financially secure nation from becoming a third world country? Where the wealthy few can come and go as they please on their private jets (thanks to Regan and Bush!)and leave the majority behind in a hell hole?

You need to address the problems that of the "true Middle class-incomes under $100,000" that the Bush Administration has long ignored. Many of us are barely getting by and the prices keep going up every day. We need help!

Too many people are drastically overcompensated, while others receive nothing.
