Give Us a Plan for a Financially-Secure America!

Target: 2008 Presidential Candidates
Sponsored by: Divided We Fail

It used to be that if you worked hard, raised your family and played by the rules, you'd be OK. But that's no longer true. Today, the burden of saving for retirement, paying for health care and supporting aging parents falls much more heavily on individuals.

For many people, the American dream is eroding. The presidential candidates have said too little about the long-term financial security crisis Americans face every day. Over the next couple weeks, the presidential candidates will do their best to reach voters in the final key primaries. Now, during this critical period for both sides, it is time to demand that leaders develop a real plan of action.

Dear [Presidential Candidate],

I believe that Americans who work hard and play by the rules deserve to be able to retire without worrying about their financial situation. Sadly, this cornerstone of the American dream is crumbling.

Millions of Americans are barely scraping by in today's economy. Saving for the future is near impossible. And traditional sources of retirement income, like pension plans, are disappearing.

It's not a partisan issue - it's an American issue. Every presidential candidate should be talking about it, and laying out clear, concrete and detailed plans for how to solve the crisis facing all of us.

Something has too be done about high medical expenses, gas prices and food prices. Cost of living expenses are rising in an unfair manner and not much is being done about it. The war in Iraq is taking away our American lives as well as putting a tremendous burden on the tax payers. The government is supposed to be by the people and for the people. WHEN DID THIS ALL CHANGE AND WHY? When did we become a nation of sheep, to be led by the nose, by those who are supposed to represent our best interests? What happened to the American pluck to make us the great country that we were? WE tell other countries to pull themselves up by the bootstraps, shouldn't we be doing the same?
