Give Us a Plan for a Financially-Secure America!

Target: 2008 Presidential Candidates
Sponsored by: Divided We Fail

It used to be that if you worked hard, raised your family and played by the rules, you'd be OK. But that's no longer true. Today, the burden of saving for retirement, paying for health care and supporting aging parents falls much more heavily on individuals.

For many people, the American dream is eroding. The presidential candidates have said too little about the long-term financial security crisis Americans face every day. Over the next couple weeks, the presidential candidates will do their best to reach voters in the final key primaries. Now, during this critical period for both sides, it is time to demand that leaders develop a real plan of action.

Dear [Presidential Candidate],

I believe that Americans who work hard and play by the rules deserve to be able to retire without worrying about their financial situation. Sadly, this cornerstone of the American dream is crumbling.

Millions of Americans are barely scraping by in today's economy. Saving for the future is near impossible. And traditional sources of retirement income, like pension plans, are disappearing.

[Your comment here]

It's not a partisan issue - it's an American issue. Every presidential candidate should be talking about it, and laying out clear, concrete and detailed plans for how to solve the crisis facing all of us.

drug companies and health care systems cost is out of reach of most americans forcing them to just not pay the bill and us with insurance end up paying exorbitant amounts for our health care....I have recently been disabled with a stroke and my cobra continuation will run out Jan. 09...what then....it will be two years before medicare will help....then I will most likely be one of those who cannot pay...why 2 years ????....if we are disabled doesnt it sound kinda ridiculous to have us wait 2 years to get any help when we are on the brink of being bankrupted if any serious medical condition continues or resurfaces....?????

Seniors don't need to be a burden on others, but should be able to care for themselves without worry. They need to feel safe and secure.

The fiscally stable, secure American family is a myth. We do not know how to control spending, nor do we know how to save. We need constructive assistance to learn how to maintain what little we have and what we can do to increase it. I want to know what you are going to do about it, and what your plan is to save the economy.
