Give Us a Plan for a Financially-Secure America!

Target: 2008 Presidential Candidates
Sponsored by: Divided We Fail

It used to be that if you worked hard, raised your family and played by the rules, you'd be OK. But that's no longer true. Today, the burden of saving for retirement, paying for health care and supporting aging parents falls much more heavily on individuals.

For many people, the American dream is eroding. The presidential candidates have said too little about the long-term financial security crisis Americans face every day. Over the next couple weeks, the presidential candidates will do their best to reach voters in the final key primaries. Now, during this critical period for both sides, it is time to demand that leaders develop a real plan of action.

Dear [Presidential Candidate],

I believe that Americans who work hard and play by the rules deserve to be able to retire without worrying about their financial situation. Sadly, this cornerstone of the American dream is crumbling.

Millions of Americans are barely scraping by in today's economy. Saving for the future is near impossible. And traditional sources of retirement income, like pension plans, are disappearing.

[Your comment here]

It's not a partisan issue - it's an American issue. Every presidential candidate should be talking about it, and laying out clear, concrete and detailed plans for how to solve the crisis facing all of us.

Scores of people are losing their homes which was their investment for the future. There is the potential for droves of homeless seniors if their federal benefits such as Medicare and Social Security are cut back or discontinued. Is that what this country should be doing? Cut back on rediculous defense spending and million dollar bathrooms. Don't punish seniors more. Keep their futures secure. Work it out!

We need a larger middle class and a much smaller gap between the rich and the poor. A hard working person needs to be able to have a place to live, food on the table, and basic health care. Also, those who cannot work and those who have retired after working all their lives need to be able to have the care that's needed and at least the basic necessities.

This country is swimming in debt to foreign lenders. The costs of the Iraq War is entirely funded outside the government budget to the tune of untold millions of dollars a month. We are hemorrhaging red ink at an alarming rate. Please show some intestinal fortitude to get our financial house in order before the entire economy collapses!

Thank you for putting the issue of all Americans who work hard for all of their lives to be able to enjoy retirement the way it should be without the worry of their financial situations. This would be a concern to you if the tables were turned. Thank you

Currently going thru a marital seperation and now everything is up in the air, I may lose my home in a divorce which I hear is good for the economy but not for me especially the way things are with the national economy. Some things happen to people they cannot always plan for.
