Give Us a Plan for a Financially-Secure America!

Target: 2008 Presidential Candidates
Sponsored by: Divided We Fail

It used to be that if you worked hard, raised your family and played by the rules, you'd be OK. But that's no longer true. Today, the burden of saving for retirement, paying for health care and supporting aging parents falls much more heavily on individuals.

For many people, the American dream is eroding. The presidential candidates have said too little about the long-term financial security crisis Americans face every day. Over the next couple weeks, the presidential candidates will do their best to reach voters in the final key primaries. Now, during this critical period for both sides, it is time to demand that leaders develop a real plan of action.

Dear [Presidential Candidate],

I believe that Americans who work hard and play by the rules deserve to be able to retire without worrying about their financial situation. Sadly, this cornerstone of the American dream is crumbling.

Millions of Americans are barely scraping by in today's economy. Saving for the future is near impossible. And traditional sources of retirement income, like pension plans, are disappearing.

[Your comment here]

It's not a partisan issue - it's an American issue. Every presidential candidate should be talking about it, and laying out clear, concrete and detailed plans for how to solve the crisis facing all of us.

I am a disabled baby boomer who worked my entire life until I became ill nd lost my house to predatory lenders in NYC. This is a real issue for my age/health group. We don't need storoes, we need a comprehensive health plan.

The George W. Bush regime has gutted our national budget and put us, and our children, and grand-children, and great-grandchildren in debt to China, India, and Mexico. He has sold our freedom for many generations. McCain is running for president, and has not said one single useful thing about the economy, nor has the grossly unqualified Sarah Palin. On the contrary, Senator Obama has often spoken about the economy, and his wish to lead Americans to a better day if we all work hard and do our part. He has put together plans and shared them with us, as to what he wants to accomplish. So, I can only say to McCain and Palin - stop the attacks on the Democrats and come up with one single original and practical idea of your own. It isn't enough to try to ridicule those who have something to offer, and expect everyone to notice that you have nothing to bring to the table.
