Give Us a Plan for a Financially-Secure America!

Target: 2008 Presidential Candidates
Sponsored by: Divided We Fail

It used to be that if you worked hard, raised your family and played by the rules, you'd be OK. But that's no longer true. Today, the burden of saving for retirement, paying for health care and supporting aging parents falls much more heavily on individuals.

For many people, the American dream is eroding. The presidential candidates have said too little about the long-term financial security crisis Americans face every day. Over the next couple weeks, the presidential candidates will do their best to reach voters in the final key primaries. Now, during this critical period for both sides, it is time to demand that leaders develop a real plan of action.

Dear [Presidential Candidate],

I believe that Americans who work hard and play by the rules deserve to be able to retire without worrying about their financial situation. Sadly, this cornerstone of the American dream is crumbling.

Millions of Americans are barely scraping by in today's economy. Saving for the future is near impossible. And traditional sources of retirement income, like pension plans, are disappearing.

It's not a partisan issue - it's an American issue. Every presidential candidate should be talking about it, and laying out clear, concrete and detailed plans for how to solve the crisis facing all of us.

We want to know what each of you candidates are going to do about the future. Social Security is going down, Medicare is in trouble and we are sick and tired of empty promises. Each of you should submit a plan today to help us instead of picking our pockets. It is a total disgrace that the U.S. has let things get in this bad of a position. We need a leader with intelligence, one that is not just interested in lining their own pockets. We need help NOW! It's high time you put into place a plan to keep Social Security and Medicare solvent for many years to come. As a citizen who worked all my life then became disabled we are living below poverty levels with no way of getting a better chance. God help us to get a President who REALLY cares about the people.

We have seen the deep cuts in Medicaid and Medicare for those who are retired on Social Security. We see how there has been a push to privaitize everything and yet the people are left to suffer. Many wondering when they get old enough to retire will all the tax money that they paid in going to be their to help them. Many have such low income that even though they work and have children that they are raising, and in some cases they are taking care of their parents as well...there is no money left over to save and bills have them in debt! Now they may not retire as well... Tell us a plan that is going to leave us high and dry!!

The government must put regulations back on banks and other loan institutions. Without checks, as they have proven to us, things get out of hand. And we must do something to regulate the credit card companies. They are causing so much financial hardship to American families and offer nothing to the general particiaption of our economy except debt. Even a balance of relatively small amounts can prove to be impossible to get out from under because they charge so much in monthly finance charges. It's outrageous and with the economy being what it is, people are just trying to get by, not using credit cards friviously.

It is about time you folks step up to helping people instead of the constant plundering of peoples pocket books! As a point, the profit part of a gallon of gasoline is in the order of one third the price. This is extortion-time to stop this and help the people. As you all know, the cost of virtually everything is controlled bythe cost of fuels and it is time to take the big oil boys to task!
