New York City residents have fewer acres of green space per person than almost any other city in the country. In some neighborhoods, 12,000 children or more can share as few as three playgrounds.
PlaNYC, a plan to improve the city's environment and build a sustainable future, will include seven initiatives to increase open space and improve public health in New York City.
These plans include making existing parks and recreational sites more available to New Yorkers, expanding usable hours at existing facilities, and expanding the city's tree canopy cover from 24 to 30 percent by 2030.
These plans and others will promote increased property values, calm traffic and increase the health and quality of life for all New Yorkers, as it would provide at least 1.5 acres of park space for every 1000 people.

New York needs more parks and open space to escape all of the fumes produced in the city. Many of those fumes can be dangerous to our health. More parks will be beneficial to the city as everyone will get great use out of it. Also they will get clean, fresh air while they are there.
