New York City residents have fewer acres of green space per person than almost any other city in the country. In some neighborhoods, 12,000 children or more can share as few as three playgrounds.
PlaNYC, a plan to improve the city's environment and build a sustainable future, will include seven initiatives to increase open space and improve public health in New York City.
These plans include making existing parks and recreational sites more available to New Yorkers, expanding usable hours at existing facilities, and expanding the city's tree canopy cover from 24 to 30 percent by 2030.
These plans and others will promote increased property values, calm traffic and increase the health and quality of life for all New Yorkers, as it would provide at least 1.5 acres of park space for every 1000 people.

Even though I do not live in NYC I visit often and like to spend time with my friends' children outside..I grew up in the city and I have many memories of playing with my friends and family in the park.

Having grown up in the city near Carl Schulz Park, I know the benefits of having green space. Please expand new parks and open spaces to improve the air quality and much much more.

We need parks more than we need high income housing.

Growing up in The Bronx was a wonderful experience. One thing that made it great was the lovely small park only a block away. That park, Joyce Kilmer Park, was an important part of my childhood. All New Yorkers should have an open green space.

As Henry David Thoreau so succinctly put it, "In wildness is the preservation of the world". How much more true is that statement today than it was 150 years ago.

We need more parks for environmental and personal well being. NYC parks employees do a fantastic job on the parks already in New York, but we can always use more parks,

We need nature. WE need to live in an environment that reminds and nourtures us with Sun, light , water, animals and birds. We are not created to live in concrete only.
