Protect Wildlife in Bristol Bay from Oil Drilling

Target: President Bush
Sponsored by: Defenders of Wildlife
The Bristol Bay is home to endangered Northern Pacific right whales and Steller sea lions. It is also one of the world’s most productive fishing grounds, with and important snow crab fishery and the planet’s largest sockeye salmon run.

But President Bush has a different vision for this precious piece of the Pacific: he wants to turn it over to profit-rich Big Oil, lifting a moratorium that has been in place since the disastrous Exxon Valdez spill.

Now is not the time to open more wild lands to oil drilling. It’s the time to protect the wildlife and fishing interests in this fragile region and invest in alternative energy sources that are well within our reach. Sign this petition to help prevent another Big Oil spill in Alaska’s still recovering Bristol Bay.

I am writing to urge you to keep the moratorium on drilling in Alaska's Bristol Bay.

The Bristol Bay is home to the threatened Steller sea lion and critical habitat for the endangered Northern Pacific right whale -- a creature still recovering from centuries of whaling. It is also the world's largest sockeye salmon run and brings in $500 million annually in snow crab, cod, sole and other commercial fisheries.

After the disastrous Exxon Valdez oil spill, your father, President George H. W. Bush, wisely placed a moratorium on drilling in these waters. Lifting this moratorium -- as you seem to be planning -- would threaten wildlife in this precious part of the Pacific, including valuable fisheries vital to the economy.

The short-term gains brought by new leasing in these sensitive waters do not out-weigh the risk of long-term damage from any potential disaster that comes with oil drilling.

It is time to go beyond fossil fuels and reach for a cleaner, safer energy future, bolstered by alternative energy sources and greater energy efficiency.

Please do not lift the moratorium on oil exploration and drilling in one of our most precious and valuable places.

we have already practically destroyed our rainforests and destroyed thousands of habitats. now governments are trying to restore it so what they're cutting into the sea? to get money mankind doesn't care if they destroy every other living thing. didn't God put us here to protect these same animals and now we're killing them off. way to go you very cruel people. i hope when the day comes and animals starts killing us off you can just let it blow over your heads. and of course killing off part of uour food source is a sure means of killing us off one by one. so i'f you're aiming at the extinction of men then by all means continue doing what you're doing. if not then remember it's called a life cycle for a reason. what goes around comes around

Jesus said it best: "For I was hungry and you gave me no food; I was thirsty and you gave me no drink; I was a stranger, and you did not take me in, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me. Then they also will answer him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?' Then will he answer them, saying, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me." (Matthew 25:42-45) Contained within every evil(greedy profiteering republican) act are the seeds of its own destruction. Adhere to the teachings of Jesus, as contained in The Urantia Book, or else suffer the consequences. It IS that simple. TRUTH has been spoken to power, Peace will prevail. Buck Fush! Please keep the habitat and wildlife in Alaska safe. Don't lift the moratorium. Short-term oil gains are not worth the consequences. Think of the Long-Term, Man!

We can't eat oil, or turn oil into food. Big Oil does not trump every other activity on the planet, just because you own a chunk of it. Survival of people, animals, and the ecology comes FIRST.
