Protect Wildlife in Bristol Bay from Oil Drilling

Target: President Bush
Sponsored by: Defenders of Wildlife
The Bristol Bay is home to endangered Northern Pacific right whales and Steller sea lions. It is also one of the world’s most productive fishing grounds, with and important snow crab fishery and the planet’s largest sockeye salmon run.

But President Bush has a different vision for this precious piece of the Pacific: he wants to turn it over to profit-rich Big Oil, lifting a moratorium that has been in place since the disastrous Exxon Valdez spill.

Now is not the time to open more wild lands to oil drilling. It’s the time to protect the wildlife and fishing interests in this fragile region and invest in alternative energy sources that are well within our reach. Sign this petition to help prevent another Big Oil spill in Alaska’s still recovering Bristol Bay.

I am writing to urge you to keep the moratorium on drilling in Alaska's Bristol Bay.

The Bristol Bay is home to the threatened Steller sea lion and critical habitat for the endangered Northern Pacific right whale -- a creature still recovering from centuries of whaling. It is also the world's largest sockeye salmon run and brings in $500 million annually in snow crab, cod, sole and other commercial fisheries.

After the disastrous Exxon Valdez oil spill, your father, President George H. W. Bush, wisely placed a moratorium on drilling in these waters. Lifting this moratorium -- as you seem to be planning -- would threaten wildlife in this precious part of the Pacific, including valuable fisheries vital to the economy.

The short-term gains brought by new leasing in these sensitive waters do not out-weigh the risk of long-term damage from any potential disaster that comes with oil drilling.

It is time to go beyond fossil fuels and reach for a cleaner, safer energy future, bolstered by alternative energy sources and greater energy efficiency.

Please do not lift the moratorium on oil exploration and drilling in one of our most precious and valuable places.
We signed the “Protect Wildlife in Bristol Bay from Oil Drilling” petition!

You should know that environmental issues are the most important thing. God did say in the 1st book of the bible to protect the environment and its animals. Don't let them do this crap to Earth.

why is it that oil drilling seems to be half of these petitions? why won't society realize that drilling as a whole is destroying what little space we've left for wildlife in the world?

Protect Alaska's $2 billion/year fishing industry from oil spills like the one in San Francisco. America needs safe clean seafood to eat and export!!

We should not lift the moratorium on oil drilling in Bristol Bay because it presents too many risks and the gain would not be worth the loss.

I Think that instead of lining you pockets with the money you make from the oil buissness you need to start looking for other fuel types and other types of cars...

we need to get off our rears and start trying to help stop the loss of all the fragile ecosystems, oil kills and we are a amazing country, can't we start saving instead of killing.

Haven't you done enough damage yet? Just stop now, for pity's sake. Salvage something from your administration which is positive for the history books since you have such a dismal record all around. Of course, that is assuming you care.

Anther example of bush & pukes trying to destroy an environment in Bristol Bay and other precious areas. They don't care other than turning areas over to oil corporations for oil profits for a few people profit and heck with everything else. The moratorium should remain in place. We all remember what happened with the disastrous Exxon Valdez spill.
