Protect Animals, the Environment, and Your Health - Pledge to be Veg!

Sponsored by: PETA
With every passing day, your life — and the lives of others — are affected by your food choices. Eating your veggies is good for your health, good for the environment, and, of course, good for animals! Take a look at the facts behind our food habits:
  • Animals in factory farms have little, or no, legal protection from cruelty. This same cruelty would be illegal if it were inflicted on dogs or cats. Yet farmed animals are just as intelligent and capable of feeling pain as the animals we cherish as companions.
  • Eating animal-based foods impairs the heart’s ability to do its job. A major study in 2005 reconfirmed that those who ate the most meat were also at the greatest risk for heart disease.
  • Raising animals for food damages the environment more than nearly anything else we do. Environmental organizations agree: eating meat wastes natural resources, pollutes the water, destroys topsoil, and contaminates the air for everyone.

Please make a difference today by pledging to be vegetarian for one month. And if you're already vegetarian, you can help by asking your friends and family to sign the pledge to be veg!

It is most likely that we started off as vegans but slowly learned to add small amounts of meat to our diet by the time we learned to control fire and managed to make meat more palatable. However, I think that meat remained a very small part of our diet as hunting involves massive risk of injury and death. It is quite likely that humans were gatherer-hunter for longer than the other way round. Now my reasons for being vegan are: I cannot personally kill an animal so I don't expect anyone else to do so for me. We have removed ourselves from the food chain so I find it cowardly to eat another being and not run the risk of death myself. Eating meat is environmentally destructive on epic proportions that it is crazy to do this to our little planet, I have 3 children and I want there to be enough food for them and my descendants. I feel so much healthier, I no longer have migraines or severe constipation. Do not worry over much about balancing your diet, just don't be too fussy and eat everything except meat and diary. I do eat eggs from a friend who has rescued hens. Get yourself some good vegan cook books and join a vegan society.

I was a vegetarian before, for about a year, and from that I had better health and actually ate less food! I stopped because it was hard being the only person I know who doesn't eat meat. Now I think it's time to do this again!

I dont know how people eat animals. I dont know how I used to eat animals. I suppose it is karma. We reap what we sow. Those who eat animals will be eaten in another life.

I believe that a little meat is good in the diet. I don't believe that how cruelly these living, breathing, feeling animals are treated is acceptable. Mass production is unacceptable. No excercise, drugs, and starvation is unacceptable. No attention, love or care for their well-being regardless of whether they are raised as pets or food is unacceptable. These are living beings and as living beings should have the same rights and respect as we give ourselves and our offspring. Honor these animals and in some way thank them for your ability to use them however you want. If the roles were reversed, I'm sure you would wish them to do the same. Protest the mass production and the cruelty! Let everyone know that you are against the horrific conditions and inhumane treatment that farm animals / livestock receive. You wouldn't slaughter your child, nor your companion animals, what makes farm animals or wildlife any different?!

I have been a vegetarian for 6 and a half months. Try it if you haven't already. It's not difficult at all! I feel even healthier than I was when I ate meat! Before you turn vegetarian or vegan, though, you should look for protein in other products. You could make yourself very ill if you cut out all forms of protein from your diet!

This is a great petition. I never gave it much thought, but I'm going to become a vegitarian for one month. And if it works out, I'll probably eat very little meat.
