We Need Sufficient Funding for Emergency Fires

Target: U.S. Senate
Sponsored by: Care2
The wildfires that are blazing through California are not only dangerous, but they are very resource-intensive. The cost of containing and fighting these fires is getting out of hand.

The U.S. House has just passed a piece of legislation designed to address the cost of fighting emergency wildfires. The Federal Land Assistance, Management and Enhancement (FLAME) Act, H.R. 5541, provides a source of funding for emergency fires and dictates a plan for paying back any funds that are borrowed from other programs.

Now, it's the Senate's turn to make sure this legislation is passed, and that there are minimal funding constraints for the Forest Service to get the job done.

Dear Senator,

I am writing to voice my support for the Federal Land Assistance, Management and Enhancement (FLAME) Act, H.R. 5541, which was just passed by the House of Representatives. This legislation provides a source of funding for emergency wildfires and dictates a plan for paying back any funds that are borrowed from other programs.

This bill is critical to fighting wildfires like the ones California has been experiencing. I want to make sure that there are minimal funding constraints on the Forest Service, so they can get the funds they need as soon as they are needed.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
[Your name here]

Drought problems that have plagued our country through many areas in the last few years have proved that this is a nation-wide problem that needs vast resources to be effectively combatted. Please make sure that fund are available to fire the fires quickly. Countless lives depend on it!

We cannot continue to fight the types and number of fires that have been occurring in the West without immediate emergency funding. This is a natural disaster just as much as a flood or a hurricane.

It breaks my heart that the residents of Big Sur felt compelled to not evacuate and to stay and try to protect their homes and businesses themselves because they could not trust that this would be done for them by the government. End the useless, pointless war for oil that is breaking this country, and put the money into saving our land, homes, and businesses.
