Stop Montana's Shameful Bison Slaughter!

Target: Montana Promotion Division
Sponsored by: Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund

America's last free-roaming wild bison are a powerful reminder of the great American West. But they are being slaughtered on a scale not seen since the 1800s, and hundreds more are slated to be killed.

This year alone, more than 1,300 bison have been needlessly killed -- more than a quarter of the park's population. State and federal officials kill these majestic animals when they leave the borders of Yellowstone National Park for fear that the animals will spread brucellosis to cattle -- even though there has never been a single case of a buffalo in the wild spreading the disease to cattle.

This is no way to manage one of the icons of the American West... especially in a state that prides itself as a destination for wildlife-seeking tourists. Sign our petition to Montana's tourism officials -- and urge them to help save these American icons!

Subject: Montana's Shameful Bison Slaughter

Please use your influence as Administrator of the Montana Promotion Division to help stop the shameful slaughter of Yellowstone National Park's bison.

Yellowstone National Park is home to one of America's last free-roaming bison herds and a powerful reminder of the great American West. Yet these majestic animals are needlessly killed when they leave the borders of the park by state and federal officials who fear the animals will spread brucellosis to cattle, even though there has never been a single case of a buffalo in the wild spreading the disease to cattle.

Montana touts itself as a haven for nature-based tourism, yet the practice of hazing, harassing and slaughtering hundreds of the last free-roaming wild bison in America tarnishes the state's reputation as a destination to enjoy the wilds of the west.
We signed the “Stop Montana's Shameful Bison Slaughter!” petition!

I watched a program about Yellowstone and how the bison are being hazed illegally while migrating! I am very upset as I was not aware this was happening. I will be writing to the president of the DOL immediately following this email!!!!

The bison dwindled down in numbers to the point where they were almost extinct. Now more than ever they are in danger of actually becoming that way. STAND UP - DO WHAT IT TAKES AND SAVE THEM. WE CAN DO THIS!

I am disgusted with the scare tactics from those who are involved with the cattle industry etc. about Bison spreading disease so therefore needing to be murdered. History will show, in the future, that the breeding of cattle for the overconsumption of beef on the planet, has contributed to greenhouse gas emissions causing much ecological disaster and physcial illness amongst meat eaters! We should be VERY concerned with the breeding of cattle and its effect on the environment AND the ingestion of toxins and hormones in cattle flesh. A recent study by Argentine Scientists have found that a cow weighing 550kg produces 800-1000 litres of methane emissions EACH DAY! Guillermo Berra a researcher at the National Institute of Agricultural Technology said scientists working on this project were surprised - 30% of Argentina's total greenhouse gas emissions could be generated by cattle. If there are 55 million cattle grazing on the pampas grasslands in Argentina as we speak, how many millions more in America & South America, Australia and the rest of the world!?? .... you do the math and contemplate the total emissions. It is FRIGHTENING!! We should be re-thinking the ignorant breeding of so many cattle for human consumption world wide and re-think the collective negative trauma inherited by the inhumane slaughtering! (Incidentally FYI the 30,000 wild horses that America is trying to cull have little impact overall either regarding food stocks or ecology or disease). So I am ashamed we have killed 1,300 beautiful bison from a diminishing native population in the last year. It is humans who are helping to manifest ecological disasters NOT ANIMALS. The slaughtering of wild beasts like the bison because the cattle industry is worried about disease, is laughable. Dis-ease is transmitted to humans by the consumer ingesting adrenalins and toxins the cattle manufactures during the inhumane slaughtering process not to mention the hormones etc administered to the animal by the farmer during the cattle's life. It stays in the cells of the flesh of the doctored animal and is there in the flesh when you buy it at the supermarket or butcher etc! AND don't forget the chemicals to colour the meat so it looks fresher for the consumer! Dis-ease amongst the population eating meat in huge quantities, is a subject of much debate and as yet not fully researched as the cattle industry would suffer if the consumer REALLY BELIEVED the truth! LEAVE THE BISON ALONE ... THEY ARE THE NATIVES OF THE LAND AND SACRED TO THE ORIGINAL CUSTODIANS OF THE LAND ... THE AMERICAN INDIANS AND HAVE THE RIGHT TO LIFE, AS DO CATTLE WHO ARE SACRED IN INDIA AND ARE TREATED WITH RESPECT AND NOT MASS BREED FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION THERE! Humans who mass-breed animals for consumption are ignorant and I am ashamed to know that our society is apathetic to the Truth! Let's not hoodwink society any longer and admit we do not benefit by mass gluttony of animal flesh but are weakened by ingesting toxins in this tampered flesh! If anything, I believe we should protect bison over and above the overbreed cattle, even though my sympathies are with them too as they can't stop man manipulating their species for profit! If we stop demanding beef we can make a difference to the Planet Earth! NO ANIMAL SPECIES SHOULD BE MANIPULATED BY MAN FOR PROFIT IN SUCH MASS PROPORTIONS! ALL ANIMAL FLESH BREED INORGANICALLY FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION IN MASS PROPORTION IS USUALLY FULL OF TOXIN AND CHEMICALS.
