Oppose New Nuclear Weapons Today
Target: U.S. SenateSponsored by: Union Of Concerned Scientists
The Bush administration has asked for $8.5 million in the 2006 budget for research on a "Robust Nuclear Earth Penetrator" (RNEP). This new nuclear weapon, also known as the nuclear "bunker buster," is being promoted as a useful tool in attacking deeply buried command centers or underground stores of chemical and biological weapons. But numerous scientific critiques, including one by the National Academy of Science, find that in many cases such a weapon would be ineffective. In addition, the nuclear blast and radioactive fall-out could kill millions of innocent people in surrounding areas. A single "bunker buster" would be nearly 100 times more powerful than the nuclear bomb that destroyed Hiroshima.
In the coming weeks, the Senate will consider funding for this new nuclear weapon. Please tell your Senators to reject all funding for the dangerous nuclear "bunker buster."

Dear God! What is on the minds of our elected officials!? Have they learned nothing from history? Is a quarter-million civilian deaths in Hiroshima and Nagasaki not enough. Is the blight of environmental pollution and spreading cancers not incentive enough to shelve such a belligerant idea. Does America need a serious ass-kicking from an emerging power such as China, or a coaltion of nations tired of America's militarism to get us to stop with such irresponsible forays into new methods of self-annihilation?

And beside all of that, I am a sensitive to earthquakes, volcanoes, storms and yes feel bomb blasts too. It does terrible things to the human body, just with the infrasound and electromagnetic energies felt by us sensitives. Not to mention the radiation fall out. We do the world no good by continuing with death and mayhem. A man such as the president of the USA should not be involved in developing more death. Peace must prevail.

This must be some kind of a bad joke. Is anyone serious in claiming that more nukes will make the world "safer"? If anything, our "wars" need to be de-escalated, not hyper-escalated. By the way, who is expected to survive these future wars to negoitate a peace; or is that important?

Nuclear weapons destroy a lot of area, not just where they're targeted. They also release a lot of radiation. From what I've read, that's a bad way to die. A really bad way. Nuclear weapons are the kinds of weapons we should never have made. Besides, in an era where other countries are discussing nuclear nonproliferation, this would come as a direct slap in the face to all of the other countries on this planet. We cannot, in good conscience, support nuclear warfare.

We have got to stop this senseless power-hungry attitude that is causing us more grief than good. It is actions like this that cause other countries to hate us as much as they do, which in turn, causes terrorist actions against us. We are the source of our own terrorism, due in part to our desire to be the most powerful country in the world. What good will it do us to be the best if we have to live in constant fear for our lives from those who we have stepped on in order to become it? The world does not need any more nuclear weapons of any kind.

Everybody dies - whoever does not get bombed dies the most horribly from the fallout. Your kids will lose their hair and teeth. Their skin will start sliding off. Hopefully, you'll go before they do so you won't have to watch.

It is clear in my mind that the Bush administration wishes to attack Iran, ostensibly because they are developing nuclear weapons, but of course it will be for continued imperialistic designs and oil. We dont have the troops to do this. So this is where the so called bunker buster comes in. First dont believe any CRAP that this can be done safely by which I mean the buster will penetrate layers of concrete and/or rock and only hit the putative weapons. All research show that no metal is strong enough to penetrate such depth and hardness and the metal on the missile will fall apart and explode mainly on the surface killing hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of innocent Iranians. And you know full well that the Bush administration and military dont give a damn about any Iranian. So at the shock of seeing so many Iranians killed, the Iranian goverment surrenders to us just like Japan did. Now we have the oil, Russia and China dont, and control of the Middle East. Oh, you think that is farfetched? Think again. And dont believe any CRAP that the technology is better now and it can be done safely. Sorry for the sarcasm, but things are getting out of control in Washington.
