Oppose New Nuclear Weapons Today

The Bush administration has asked for $8.5 million in the 2006 budget for research on a "Robust Nuclear Earth Penetrator" (RNEP). This new nuclear weapon, also known as the nuclear "bunker buster," is being promoted as a useful tool in attacking deeply buried command centers or underground stores of chemical and biological weapons. But numerous scientific critiques, including one by the National Academy of Science, find that in many cases such a weapon would be ineffective. In addition, the nuclear blast and radioactive fall-out could kill millions of innocent people in surrounding areas. A single "bunker buster" would be nearly 100 times more powerful than the nuclear bomb that destroyed Hiroshima.
In the coming weeks, the Senate will consider funding for this new nuclear weapon. Please tell your Senators to reject all funding for the dangerous nuclear "bunker buster."

i think that we are only killing ourselves ..slowly. there is no threat on earth or from space to justify the huge amou7nt of money put is this nuclear tests for so many nations worldwide. instead we can use the money for some noble and more urgent causes: protect the enviroment , protect endangered species and help the programs that are desperately trying to save them and to keep the habitats where they are still living, fight poverty in Africa , fight AIDS wordwide...and so on. these are all major threats to out future and they need action ..URGENT.

If you came into American politics to make the world a better and safer place, then why would you honestly vote for this? Our president is a twisted man. Who obviously thinks building better and bigger bombs will solve all the worlds problems. How is voting for something like this helping to our eventual goal of world peace?

i am so tired of constantly trying to get my government to do the right thing. and by this i mean stop making weapons, quit making the us number one in weaponry production and sale, quit making us number one in energy use, quit being the world police and quit destroying the environment. i need my country to be number one in fighting overpopulation, number one in fighting pollution, number one in setting the highest standards in the world and not thinking progress means everyone has to have a tv.

I oppose any funding for new nuclear weapons. Wasn't that the reason we went to war with Iraq because Iraq was said to have weapons of mass destruction? Why then would we, who are so outspoken about Iraq, Iran, and North Korea possessing any kind of nuclear weapon, turn around and manufacture more? Isn't that a bit hypocritical and dangerous? Dangerous in the sense that when others see us building our stockpile of nuclear weapons, why should not they. Then there is that need for others to protect themselves against us and, therefore, a need to manufacture their own WMD. Where does it end? It could only end in the destruction of all of us. Is that what we want?

We have more than enough nuclear weapons. We have not taken care of the toxic effects of manufacturing and testing them. We don't really know how to take care of nuclear waste. We don't need a nuclear war. We don't need to experience a nuclear blast. We humans are too crazy to have such weapons at our disposal. I am amazed we have survived our capacity to destroy ourselves and each other as well as we have so far. And I wouldn't give us a great grade on that either.
