The Bush administration has asked for $8.5 million in the 2006 budget for research on a "Robust Nuclear Earth Penetrator" (RNEP). This new nuclear weapon, also known as the nuclear "bunker buster," is being promoted as a useful tool in attacking deeply buried command centers or underground stores of chemical and biological weapons. But numerous scientific critiques, including one by the National Academy of Science, find that in many cases such a weapon would be ineffective. In addition, the nuclear blast and radioactive fall-out could kill millions of innocent people in surrounding areas. A single "bunker buster" would be nearly 100 times more powerful than the nuclear bomb that destroyed Hiroshima.
In the coming weeks, the Senate will consider funding for this new nuclear weapon. Please tell your Senators to reject all funding for the dangerous nuclear "bunker buster."
We signed the “Oppose New Nuclear Weapons Today” petition!

Isn't there enough death?

Because it's a no-win investment; if they're ever used, we're all dead, and if they're not, we wasted the money on them in the first place. And, contrary to what pro-nuke types may claim, this technology doesn't give any non-miitary return into our economy at large.

The United States has effectively all ready re-ignited the nuclear arms race by its use of depleted uranium shell casings in the Gulf Wars, the disaparity of its treatment of Iraq, ultimately shown to have no weapons of mass destruction vs. N. Korea with proven nuclear arms and a missile delivery system capable of striking Japan and even the West Coast of the U.S., as well as its decision to resume testing and development of nuclear weapons. Is the whole nation suffering from collective Alzeheimer's? Is there no one in Congress who remembers what living poised on the brink of nuclear destruction was like at the heighth of the Cold War? And at that time, we were dealing with only two major nuclear players, the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. The "Club" is larger now, with the clear potential for becoming much larger and even more unstable, fueled by the incredibly irresponsible policies of the current administration with regard to nuclear weapons.

NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS of any kind PLEASE!!!
How can we choose one & not the other. It would become a big if/or debate then. And I think we have enough of those going on now, in general.

The Government of the US is constantly telling the world that they can't have nuclear weapons....who will be our Big Brother and tell the US that we can't have them? In my opnion, the US leaders are not any more resposible when it comes to nuclear weapons than anyone else in the world!! We don't need them and WE, the people, don't want them!!

I beseech you, to oppose this, and any other, legislation and/or funding for the development of nuclear weapons. The list of reasons I urge your opposition is so extensive, I am unable to list them all here, but some of the key reasons are:
* The World needs less, not more, nuclear weapons.
* Development of new nuclear weapons by the US is hypocritical and counter-productive to our efforts regarding nuclear development in Korea and Iran.
* Development of new nuclear weapons is hypocritical and counter-productive to our efforts to promote peace and humanity in the World.
* The money needed to develop new nuclear weapons will be better spent and more effective, if used to help solve the economic and inhumane problems of the World that lead to unrest, conflicts, and wars.
* The scientific community at large does not agree that the Robust Nuclear Earth Penetrator (RNEP) is effective.

well, there they go again... It's a stupidity to create more weapons, for what? Does the US President have any gray matter in his brain? Or maybe he has, but all his head is full of fear, only such fear can create more violence and violence generates fear, just think of all living things and people around the world that could get killed 'cause a few people's fear...

The measurement of our own life can be found in our valueing of others. If they have minimal value, so must we. Do not take away from others that which you would not willing loose without say. Do not enact laws and statutes that give this right to anybody.
