Millions of Americans are losing their homes in the worst foreclosure crisis in recent memory, and the Bush Republicans in Washington are content to sit on their hands.
That's not good enough for the American people, so Democrats are doing everything we can to rush federal assistance to people devastated by the mortgage crisis. But again, George Bush threatened to veto House legislation to provide immediate assistance to those in need.
You can help us show our opponents that the American people are serious about solving these problems. Please sign our petition and join our efforts today.
We signed the “Stop Senate Republicans From Stalling Efforts to Prevent Foreclosures” petition!

This is a crisis which will affect us all if it is not curtailled. I already see the "investors" coming in and scooping up foreclosed properties. An educated middle class with the supports a government can provide (health care, regulation of corporations, Social Security)keep our country strong and productive. Depriving people of their homes and not regulating lending practices is the way to further destroy democracy. Stop running this country like a "business" it is a country by, of and for the PEOPLE. Profits are not the only criterion for a healthy democracy.

If you don't stop to help the Serfs then the day will come that the Lords will not help you. This modern day Serfdom will come to an end on January 20, 2009 and the Serfs will remember who were their friends.

Our economy is on the very brink of recession and foreclosure rates have nearly doubled in the last year. Over 2 million Americans are at risk of losing their homes and losing their grip on the American Dream. Yet Senate Republicans are doing nothing to address the foreclosure crisis.
These foreclosures hurt us all. They damage an already teetering economy in a downward spiral of falling home values and decreased tax bases, and they put our friends and neighbors out of their homes.
We can't afford to sit around and wait for these issues to sort themselves out. We, the undersigned, urge Senate Republicans to stop obstructing the Democrats' efforts to prevent foreclosures.
Democrats have united around a few core principles that should be a part of any plan to address this critical issue:
We would rush emergency federal foreclosure prevention resources to nonprofit housing groups that are on the frontlines, fighting to keep families in their homes.
Our plan would provide even more funding to city and state agencies working to help borrowers save their houses.
Senate Democrats would enact tough new government oversight to end predatory lending.
Finally, our plan would provide new assistance to creditworthy homeowners who need help refinancing now, before they get caught in the mortgage crunch.
These common sense solutions aren't radical, they're just what's necessary.
We won't accept any more obstructionism. Americans are losing their homes and they need help.
Sincerely
Lisa

Foreclosures are happening all over this country how can anyone want to obstruct efforts to help? Bush has made this mess and now he can retire. He finished his father's dirty work in the mideast at the exspense of the American middle class. Now we can all loose our homes too.

How can we expect people who have no clue how the regular guy lives to possibly understand this issue? The Republicans are always on the side of the corporate world and to hell with the people. They all deserve to have some tragedy fall on them!!!! Help the citizens survive, that's what the government is supposed to do. Where's Roosevelt when you need him?

As usual the rich are getting richer by buying the foreclosed homes of people in middle America have worked their lives for. The good old boys in Congress need to get their hand out of the cookie jar and start protecting their constituants before they themselves find their butts out of office. Which is what they so justly deserve!

I have known several families that were not "bad actors' according to the republicans.
They got adjustable loans as that was the only way into the now fading 'American Dream'. They believed the hype put forth by predatory lenders that they would be able to get a better deal later if they made their payments on time. They ended up deeper in debt and or homeless.
I worked hard and tried for years to get to the point where I could own my own home. Every time I would get a bit ahead the economy would take a hit or I would personally and have to spend my savings on medical care or whatever emergency car repair.
