Stop Senate Republicans From Stalling Efforts to Prevent Foreclosures

Target: U.S. Senate Republicans
Sponsored by: Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee
Millions of Americans are losing their homes in the worst foreclosure crisis in recent memory, and the Bush Republicans in Washington are content to sit on their hands.

That's not good enough for the American people, so Democrats are doing everything we can to rush federal assistance to people devastated by the mortgage crisis.  But again, George Bush threatened to veto House legislation to provide immediate assistance to those in need.

You can help us show our opponents that the American people are serious about solving these problems.  Please sign our petition and join our efforts today.

Our economy is on the very brink of recession and foreclosure rates have nearly doubled in the last year. Over 2 million Americans are at risk of losing their homes and losing their grip on the American Dream. Yet Senate Republicans are doing nothing to address the foreclosure crisis.

These foreclosures hurt us all. They damage an already teetering economy in a downward spiral of falling home values and decreased tax bases, and they put our friends and neighbors out of their homes.

We can't afford to sit around and wait for these issues to sort themselves out. We, the undersigned, urge Senate Republicans to stop delaying the Democrats' efforts to prevent foreclosures.
We signed the “Stop Senate Republicans From Stalling Efforts to Prevent Foreclosures” petition!

Look, the solution is simple. Let the government buy the mortgages of distressed homeowners (real homeowners, not "flippers"). Then their income tax rate goes up at a rate sufficient to repay the government in a suitable time-frame, and the additional tax cannot be deducted, but must be paid under all circumstances. To do so may give the predatory lenders some incentive to offer their mortgagees a reasonable fixed rate, at the risk of losing their loan altogether to the government.

Please help our hard working, deserving citizens! Everything is going up- gas, food, housing, etc. EXCEPT income. How are we supposed to make an honest living AND pay these every increasing prices? Please stand up for hard working people (with families!) that face losing their homes because of Bush's mistakes! He doesn't care... he has plenty of money to spend on $5.00/gallon of gas, $2.00 for a loaf of bread, etc. But we, the average person need to take a stance- together.

Bailing out the lenders (eg: Bear Stearns) is not the solution to the home mortgage problem. That approach only gives our hard-earned tax dollars to the banks, and doesn't give foreclosure relief to the poor saps who have been sucker punched into taking these sub-standard loans. Instead, give the relief directly to those who need it - the people who are in danger of losing their homes. A solution like this makes everybody a winner. The person who is in danger of foreclosure is able to make his/her mortgage payments and the fat cats get their loans paid off. We could call this effect "trickle-up".

Isn't it the government's job to HELP the citizens of its country? Why don't you try to do that for a change instead of killing people half way around the world?

We are IN a recession not on the brink of one. Take the money from President Bush and his comrades in arms to heal our country not line their pockets with blood/oil money. This country is .... in a sad state of affairs.
