Meet Your Meat: End Factory Farming Today!

Target: US House of Representatives
Sponsored by: PETA
Have you met your meat? Most people eat meat with the luxury of not having to see the horrors of how the animals are raised and slaughtered. These practices are not only cruel, they are dangerous to our health as well, as unhealthy animals produce unhealthy meat.

In factory farms, chickens, pigs, cows and other animals are treated like commodities, despite their intelligence and personality. Chickens, who form strong emotional bonds with their families, have their sensitive beaks sawed off with a burning hot blade and are confined to battery cages where they can't even lift a wing.

Pigs, who are considered smarter than 3-year-old children, are forcibly impregnated and confined to filthy metal crates so small they can't even turn around or lie down. Cows, who are gentle giants who are visibly distressed when separated from their calves, are subjected to castration, branding and de-horning - all without anesthesia.

These cruelties are just the beginning of the horrors of factory farming. Sign this petition today to tell Congress that factory farming must be stopped!

Dear Member of Congress,

I am writing to you today to express my deep concern for the welfare of animals raised and slaughtered in factory farms. Pigs, cows, chickens and other animals who have all been proven to be intelligent and emotional animals, are often kept in disgusting and cramped conditions, and subjected to painful and degrading procedures:

- Chickens have their sensitive beaks sawed off with a burning hot blade and are confined to tiny crates where they can't even raise a wing,
- Pigs are forcibly impregnated and confined to filthy, metal crates so small that they can't turn around or lie down comfortably, and
- Cows are subjected to agonizing procedures like castration, branding and de-horning -- all without anesthesia.

These horrors are just the beginning. The heavy use of antibiotics is putting us all at risk, and the amount of pollution that these factory farms generate accounts for more global warming pollution than the transportation industry!

We signed the “Meet Your Meat: End Factory Farming Today!” petition!

Not only is it inhumane - it is not healthy - animals are fed antibiotics and growth hormones to counteract problems of the conditions in which they are kept. We are what we eat and if you want a healthy and smart community you need to strart with healthy food AND an ethical appraoch to life -how do we expect our children to be good citizens when this is the example we give them on how to treat other beings?

I admit, as I eat meat I usually do think about where it came from and what that animal had to go through in order for me to be sitting down and eating it. It is disgusting what slaughter houses do to the animals they end up killing anyway. I mean, these animals already are having horrible lives why not kill them at the end of it and serve it on a plate with a side of mashed potatoes. And how about veal? That is the most disgusting of all. I don't even want to get into it.

Not only is it unnecessarily cruel to the animal, the way they die effects the meat which is passed on to us. Have a heart! Just because they cannot speak does not mean they cannot feel the horrible pain being inflicted on them. You have horrible Karma.

factory farming is a living hell for its animals because the animals are treated as commodities. therefore, the animals'living condition, healthy, well being and needs are all ignored! Since these animals are seen as dead meat any way, the workers do routinely kick, beat, deprive the animals of food & water. and they do get away with such cruelty because their evil deeds do save their company some lousy bucks! these companies are profit seeking artificially created entities, they and their executives only have eyes on money! unfortunately, their animals have feelings and do have needs like many pets of ours. yet these poor innocent victims are given the respect and kindness like the little puppies get. furthermore, if our dogs are treated the same way as the pigs, chickens, ducks and cows, we all will be arrested by the animal control officers. in addition, we will be the ugly bad evil doers posted by the mass media. lastly, factory farms create the most and the worse pollutions in this country. the run offs from factory farms destroy our rivers and streams. these farms kill the fishes and wildlife living in and near the polluted areas. poor people too have to endure the disgusting smell, air pollution and bad water. we, as a nation of meat eaters, are getting fatter. and our health is declining due to our consumption of animal protein. in short, cheap meat is killing not only the factory farm animals, our love of meat is also putting our feet in our grave sooner than we like. for the sake of humanity, the voiceless factory farm animals and us, just ban this evil and dark business! it must be evil and ugly since no public is allowed to inspect the living condition of their helpless and miserable animals. they have something ugly and bad to hide. they act like criminal, maybe they are! like those who run and work for the slaughtering houses.

Factory Farming is cruel and inhumane, it also produces ecological damage. I eat very little meat and then I buy free range chicken and organic meats.
