Meet Your Meat: End Factory Farming Today!

Target: US House of Representatives
Sponsored by: PETA
Have you met your meat? Most people eat meat with the luxury of not having to see the horrors of how the animals are raised and slaughtered. These practices are not only cruel, they are dangerous to our health as well, as unhealthy animals produce unhealthy meat.

In factory farms, chickens, pigs, cows and other animals are treated like commodities, despite their intelligence and personality. Chickens, who form strong emotional bonds with their families, have their sensitive beaks sawed off with a burning hot blade and are confined to battery cages where they can't even lift a wing.

Pigs, who are considered smarter than 3-year-old children, are forcibly impregnated and confined to filthy metal crates so small they can't even turn around or lie down. Cows, who are gentle giants who are visibly distressed when separated from their calves, are subjected to castration, branding and de-horning - all without anesthesia.

These cruelties are just the beginning of the horrors of factory farming. Sign this petition today to tell Congress that factory farming must be stopped!

Dear Member of Congress,

I am writing to you today to express my deep concern for the welfare of animals raised and slaughtered in factory farms. Pigs, cows, chickens and other animals who have all been proven to be intelligent and emotional animals, are often kept in disgusting and cramped conditions, and subjected to painful and degrading procedures:

- Chickens have their sensitive beaks sawed off with a burning hot blade and are confined to tiny crates where they can't even raise a wing,
- Pigs are forcibly impregnated and confined to filthy, metal crates so small that they can't turn around or lie down comfortably, and
- Cows are subjected to agonizing procedures like castration, branding and de-horning -- all without anesthesia.

These horrors are just the beginning. The heavy use of antibiotics is putting us all at risk, and the amount of pollution that these factory farms generate accounts for more global warming pollution than the transportation industry!

We signed the “Meet Your Meat: End Factory Farming Today!” petition!

Animals that are slaughtered for human consumption still deserve to be treated with respect and be given the basic comforts. They should not be subjected to pain and torture simply because they will eventually be killed. In fact, the way they are slaughtered is not even humane and we should make ever effort to care for our feelow creatures.

Human teeth are herbivorous. It is not even natural for humans to eat meat! They did it out of desperation during the ice age. Time for humans to stop acting like barbaric cave people. Time for everyone to embrace vegetarianism, and to treat all living beings with respect!

I can't possibly believe these animals were created on this Earth to be tortured. How does a factory farmer who raises & slaughters God's innocent creatures in this way reckon with his conscience?

Factory farming harms humans with terrible food, it harms animals, and it harms the environment. it is ineffective, inefficient, and unethical. We have a health care and obesity crisis in large part because of terrible factory farming and horrid "food." We can do better all the way around.

We are not just cruel to wolves, wild horses, polar bears and dogs and cats but the poor factory bred animals that we miss treat is appalling for the leaders of the free world. Shame on us.

It is time to acknowledge that animals have a heart and soul and that they have feelings and suffer. I don't understand why so many people even in this century still treat animals like objects and not feel guilty about it. I almost feel like compassionate people are the minority, reading about all these monstruous things that happen to animals still today and even in countries like the US.

Eating other animals and plants is necessary for life. BUT that doesn't mean humans should torture them first!

It's absolutely disgusting what we as humans do to these poor farm animals all in an effort to save a dollar, and profit more. I'd rather pay more money for my meat than to know that my meal is coming from a poor tortured animal.

ANIMALS DON'T DESERVE THIS, AND WE DON'T NEED TO EAT IT IF THIS IS HOW WE GET IT.

It's a shame that America allows such abusive practices. It certainly says something about the values of farmers and others who produce our food. Money, Money, Money. However, there is a definite lack of compassion and humanity in our government and people who participate in this brutal form of raising animals.
