Have you met your meat? Most people eat meat with the luxury of not having to see the horrors of how the animals are raised and slaughtered. These practices are not only cruel, they are dangerous to our health as well, as unhealthy animals produce unhealthy meat.
In factory farms, chickens, pigs, cows and other animals are treated like commodities, despite their intelligence and personality. Chickens, who form strong emotional bonds with their families, have their sensitive beaks sawed off with a burning hot blade and are confined to battery cages where they can't even lift a wing.
Pigs, who are considered smarter than 3-year-old children, are forcibly impregnated and confined to filthy metal crates so small they can't even turn around or lie down. Cows, who are gentle giants who are visibly distressed when separated from their calves, are subjected to castration, branding and de-horning - all without anesthesia.
These cruelties are just the beginning of the horrors of factory farming. Sign this petition today to tell Congress that factory farming must be stopped!
We signed the “Meet Your Meat: End Factory Farming Today!” petition!

I don't eat meat anymore because of the way these animals are treated. I believe that a lot of other people would stop eating meat if they actually knew what goes on in these places. Please end factory farming.

GREED! GREED! GREED! These poor animals suffer their whole lives just so somebody can make a bigger buck, if the cages for pigs were big enough for them to lie down, that would been less pigs, less money. This all BOILS down to GREED. And by allowing it, you are supporting INHUMANE GREED!

it is gross and unacceptable! why are we treating animals this way??? animals need to see the light of day and feed natural food. they shouldn't be injected with anything. shame on you for not helping these animals

Horrible, horrible, horrible! I want every single American citizen to see where their "meat" comes from. These poor animals are raised on factory farms as unfeeling "commodities". Their conditions are cruel and inhumane. Sometimes their battery cages and gestation crates are so small that they can hardly move or lay down comfortably. Chickens and cows are proven to be intelligent and sentient beings. They should be comfortable and have sanitary and healthy conditions or at least be able to go outside!! The coup de grace is that in order to keep these sick and abused animals alive, a constant dosage of antibiotics are filtered into their "food". These antibiotics are transferred to the people that eat them, encouraging super strands of bacteria, aka MRSA, and super diseases (avian flu and mad cow disease). Please enforce stricter standards in these "farms" in order to protect the animals, the communities adjacent to the farms from environmental pollution, and the un-knowing consumers from antibiotic resistant disease.
Thank you,
Anne Peronne

Factory farm animals and birds need to be protected. Currently big business is calling the shots and they just scuff at the misery and anguish these creatures endure before they die. We are human beings, supposedly the most intelligent, yet we make living and breathing creatures suffer unimaginable horrors because of greed. The time to stop this horror is now. Tell big business they are not buying your vote with cruelty.

This has gone on way too long and it's time to stop looking the other way while these animals are tortured.

If we are what we eat...then we're filthy, diseased, tortured, cramped, and psychotic. We're hurting animals AND OURSELVES by these factory farming practices. They get sick...how can we not get sick if we eat them? Cows are fed grains which should be used for biofuel, and it makes them so sick that they develop massive colonies of E. coli in their guts...and where do you think that E. coli goes when they're slaughtered? Bird flu wouldn't be nearly as much of a problem if birds weren't crammed together by the tens of thousands. Baby pigs, which smell just like baby humans when they're newborn, are fattened up in cages that drive them insane, when some lucky pot-bellied relatives live as pets. And the smell...the smell of these factory farms is overwhelming. The waste is poisoning groundwater. And for what? So dollar menus at fast food joints can be plumped up with cheap burgers and chicken sandwiches? We should pay more for high-quality meat if we can't do without animal flesh. Animals deserve better...and so do we. This is not idyllic family farming...this is big business. This is agribusiness buying up family farms and leaving tradition in the dust. They're just out to make as much profit as they can...never mind they're wasting our precious grain that should be used for food and biofuel. Never mind that they're poisoning our water and air with waste and chemicals. Never mind that they're poisoning our bodies with cheap, substandard animal products. We're being cruel to animals, sure. But we're really being cruel to ourselves.

the meat industry is totally cruel. animals need to be raised with love and when killed... it must be done properly, in a stress free setting for the animal - without pain at all. What the majority of meat eaters eat out there is terribly disgusting!

Stressing the animal you are going to eat, puts the stress chemicals into you when you eat it. You are what what you eat. Dignity for self and all life forms will stop this nonsence.
