Restore Affordable Birth Control

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: NARAL Pro-Choice America
Did you know that a federal law from 2005 inadvertently caused prescription birth control prices to soar? This drastic increase in cost has affected university health centers and family-planning clinics around the country, making prescription contraception unaffordable for many college students and lower income women! College students around the country prompted Congress to introduce a bipartisan solution to restore access to affordable birth control. While the cost of the original legislation adds up every day, this new bill won't cost taxpayers a single penny. The Prevention Through Affordable Access Act was introduced by Representatives from both parties who agree that access to affordable contraception is the most effective way to prevent unintended pregnancy. Dear [Decision Maker],

The Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 inadvertently caused contraceptive prescription prices around the country to skyrocket. The bipartisan Prevention Through Affordable Access Act was recently introduced to remedy this problem. It is critical that this bill move quickly before more women find themselves no longer able to afford their prescription birth control.

Access to affordable contraception is vitally important. The price increase could force young women to go off birth control, and we all know that birth control is crucial to reducing unintended pregnancy and thus the need for abortion.

[Your comment]

This legislative fix to the problem would not cost taxpayers even a single penny.

I urge you to work quickly to ensure its passage.

Sincerely,

Ridiculous! Our population is souring and the answer is in making choices for birth control. Please make available the option for women of any status to have access to affordable contraceptives.

Increasing the cost of birth control limits the use of female contraception to only those who can afford it, meaning those who are already poor are likely to have more babies--babies that will probably rely on welfare. It's a lose-lose situation. This limitation is yet another way our patriarchal society controls women's sexuality.

We are supposed to live in a nation where government and politics are separate from religion. The fact that the such a decision was made that raised the cost of birth control and contraceptives is indicative of the fact that that separation, one of the foundations of this country is crumbling. Making it harder to get birth control and the continued attempts to overturn Roe v Wade (however unintentional) show that this country, in my opinion has no respect for the choices and the free will of women whom lost access to to birth control will inadvertently affect!

It is ridiculous that we condem those who consider or have an abortion, while cutting off all other avenues of choice through govermental actions.
